I've generally been behind Clarke and championed him to stay despite the poor euros
Yesterday was probably the first point where I've thought "does a change benefit everyone?"
We're too talented in the middle of the park to let this group just fade out of love playing for Scotland.
Result aside, the selection and then performance were baffling. Mckenna, doig, hendry and Bowie/Wilson should all have started on come on for at least 30 mins
We know what Robbo, McTominay etc give. Last night was a lose/lose situation when the teams were announced and weve come out with worst case scenario. Stubbornness got Strachan in the end, it might go the same way for Clarke

IMO if you were to take away the financial consequences of someone losing their job or the compensation involved and have a good conversation between the SFA and Clarke about the best way forward, I would be surprised if they came to the conclusion that Clarke was the best man going forward. Just now he’s staying on because he’d love to take us to a World Cup and he probably, understandably feels he’s earned the right to give that a go. That doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to happen though.
I hope common sense prevails and he leaves sooner rather than later.

They've not just dragged him off the streets.

That's a lot of bad luck though it doesn't excuse for a moment the overall Scotland performance.

He's not much better imo. But yes, McCrorie was 2nd choice.

For what it is worth, I think Clarke should and perhaps would have played Slicker for 45 mins regardless over the two games.
Only way he'd get experience.

There was no need for Robertson to complete the 90 yesterday, why not give Doig the second half or last half hour? Same with Adams, why bring him in when you could give Bowie or Wilson a run out and see how they do (aware that Wilson has had some minutes in the last match)? Souttar and McKenna should have started at centre back, what did we gain by another match of grant Hanley? Whether any of us think he’s good enough or not (I dont), at some point he won’t be there for whatever reason, why not give souttar and McKenna a chance to play together, and see how they do?
It was good to see Johnson finally get a game at right back, although it should have happened ages ago.

I'm not advocating for an entirely different 11. I think we could retain 5 or 6 like souttar, gilmour, Tierney, ferguson (whos still relatively new to the side himself) and Mcginn
It all just feels a bit stale and last night felt like a chance to blood some new fresh energy from the guys weve mentioned

Another telling sign of a team that plays for each other is the protection that they give to their keepers.
McRorie getting injured in the warm up would have highlighted Gunn as vulnerable. A long throw to the front post and he's leaping without any protection against the lanky Icelandic striker.
It was noticeable that the forward made no effort whatsoever to head the ball. His sole aim seemed to be to focus on contact.
For the second goal, Iceland put their most physical guy in front of Slicker who then proceeds to hold the keepers arms and pushes him backwards into the goal.
They were a dirty team, well versed in the Dark Arts. We gave both keepers no protection at all.
Not why we lost perhaps but sadly indicative of a lack of defensive cohesion. A group of individuals rather than a team.Last edited by RIP; 07-06-2025 at 07:00 PM.

He needs games now though. He was playing 1st team football at 16, he's been in the Bournemouth match day squad last season at 18 but what he needs is a season playing 30+ games at a decent level.PM Awards General Poster of The Year 2015, 2016, 2017. Probably robbed in other years

Think we could see McKeena at ER in the next season or two.
See that McTominay is out of tomorrow game now as well.

I don't think it's a bad thing McTominay is out really. Obviously one or our most important players but we know what he can do and he looked tired v Iceland.
Tierney could do with games but seems to be forever injured.
In theory it should be an opportunity for others and if we can't beat Lichtenstein without these players then the games up really.
