It will be interesting to see what Adidas come up with for Celtic this year in terms of away kits and merchandise. They seem to have been quietly elevated to Adidas top tier, or close to it. They got a heritage kit last year and have had a full player issue kit this year for the first time. I'd be surprised if they don't get a trefoil/originals kit.

If we were ever to go back to Adidas I'd assume we'd go in about where Aberdeen are. A lot of the merchandise stuff will just be off the shelf with a badge chucked on but you get at least one bespoke kit (and the last couple of Aberdeen away kits have been annoyingly good).

I think the terrible deal we had with a 3rd party for Nike put me off going for one of the big 2. The crap Avec training gear and the jackets and sweatshirts with the badge on the wrong side was laughable. I think we'd be big enough to avoid that with Adidas now.
Celtic are in the second tier of Adidas Elite status- known as "Local Elite" - so similar to Villa and NUFC they get lifestyle collections and authentic kits and trefoil on one kit, but they are only sold on a fairly local level - unlike the elite teams (Juve, Man U, Madrid etc) whose gear is punted in Adidas shops throughout the world.

Aberdeen actually had a bespoke Spezial collection (clothing and trainers) released by Adidas last season, so they are def getting some kind of a tailored offering.

There’s a guy pretty high up at adidas who is an Aberdeen fan which I suspect is the reason they’ve had a decent deal with them/got some extras

I think their home shirts have been really good over the last few years.

We had Adidas for 5 years with 3 different home and away strips - yet they remain the most coveted Hibs strips, going for hundreds online. A far from perfect condition 89-91 just sold for nearly 400 quid on ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/267255793673

5 more years of Joma though!!

Same but also the 89-91 away kit! Id hate to to sell them but good to know the option is there if I need a bit cash. Although, with the rise of good quality replicas, there value may not be that high for ever. Hibs releasing exact replicas of the Bukta 93-95 kit for example has destroyed the price of originals.

Spezial has nothing to do with adidas mainline or football.

    I don't mind that.

I'm always of the opinion that a home kit should be sacrosanct and kept pretty simple and traditional. Away kits and particularly 3rd kits should be a chance to try something different and go a bit mental.

Nottingham Forest and Leeds also had Spezial lines released at the same time as Aberdeen in their club shops. All three clubs wear Adidas kits. There is obviously a link there.

Correct. What I was implying sorry is that the Spezial stuff doesn’t allude to Aberdeen having any kinda extra lucrative deal with Adidas. Should’ve communicated it better.

No worries, I wasn't implying they got a more lucrative deal either just that in addition to the bespoke kits they were also getting some bespoke leisure wear. Not sure it was very good though TBH.

I've seen this Umbro away kit online before. It looks like it would be an away version of the 85-86 kit given the Insave sponsor.

But did we actually wear that? I cant find any pictures of Hibs wearing a kit like that. Was it even an official Hibs top or is it just a crazy magical invented remake?

It's legit in the sense that if you order from there then you will get the goods and they will be decent quality.

It's not in the sense that the stuff isn't actually Adidas from the 1980s/early 90s but I assume everyone would realise that given the price point.

What a buy that would be if it’s a perfect fake. Let us know if you do end buying it and what it’s like when it arrives

I was too scared to go through with it having never heard of the website lol

It's pre-order only just now with delivery expected in 4-6 weeks. I was hoping someone else would reply saying they've already ordered, bought loads of stuff from those guys in the past sort of thing!

First couple of beers on friday night and I'll have ordered the home, away and retro John Collins jumper

In my experience, the worst case scenario is you get a refund. Bit of a waiting game but risk worth taking IMO.

We wore it at Easter Road against Hearts in the middle 80's, New Year fixture if I recall correctly.

Wow! I’ve got that one in my cupboard. It has srunk mind, but £400. That’s good to know. Got the home one too.

Did very well in the early days of eBay. Managed to secure those two, the 1991 League Cup top (home and away) and a mid 80s P&D windows away shirt with the old crown badge for buttons.

Back then nobody knew the value of old shirts. Think I got the 91 Cup Final shirt for £20!

None of them fit me anymore, but I do like getting them out every so often. Will be fitting my sons soon.

I still think that people will pay good money for genuine originals.

    Who wants a fake?

    (I have fakes too BTW).

    Ditto.

You do wonder how a kit deal is done with football clubs.

Do clubs put it out to tender or do the manufacturers contact clubs with a proposition when their current kit deal is due to expire. And is it all down to money or would clubs want to be associated with a world class brand, with a bit less money. I'm sure a Hibs Adidas kit would outsell any other brand over the last few years, as long as it was not an ugly design. It would be a massive seller.

Going back a bit now but I'm sure when we went with Adidas, Alex Miller was our manager. I'm positive I read a story that he knew a marketing guy who worked with Adidas and we subsequently changed from Umbro to Adidas. When Miller was with St Mirren prior to joining us their kits were Adidas.

I have read some supporters say on here that there can be a bit of brand snobbery at times. I get that, but seeing Hibs running out with a quality Adidas kit as we did in the 80's & 90's was great. I had the home and away Adidas kits and they were brilliant.

There is a bit of brand snobbery at times. However, I very much doubt you would see the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG or Liverpool running out with a Joma or Bukta kit.

I would like to think we are still big enough to have a quality, high end Adidas or Nike kit.

I had the home version of that in a small about 15 years ago before retro tops were as ‘cool’ as they are now. Was too small for me so sold it for about £70 and thought I’d got a great price for it!

Sure I bought it for about £25 though to be fair so not a bad ROI.
