    Sunset on Hibs book

Timing of release is interesting given the recent passing of STF. Apparently the book has been ready for publication for a long time...that aside, this sounds like an alternative viewpoint from David Duff that is bound to be of historical interest.

    Simon Pia involved

    Out in October

Will look forward to this book - should be an interesting account of events from Duff himself.

I know he (crucially) refused to sell his shares, but did Duff really 'lead the fight'? And was he really a lifelong Hibs fan? That's not how I recall it, but might be wrong.

Should be a very interesting read and perhaps the delay is there so that alternative sides can be told without fear of expensive court proceedings?

Dunno about "leading the fight" but he was a Hibs fan as was Gray.

IIRC David Duff refused to sell his shareholding and had a surprise ally in Hibs Director Shiela Rowland ( ex wife of David Rowland ) who also sided with the Hands Off Hibs campaign and refused to sell her holding knowing what a heartless crook Rowland was

Shiela Rowland had fallen in love with the club that had made her Scottish football’s first female Director

There was a really good documentary on the whole thing by the BBC .... You can find it on You Tube by typing in BBC Focal point Hibernian FC. I think there was a follow up to it, but not sure if that's available.

As for Duff ..... For all his faults, in the end he was taken in by a man so nefarious he made Duff look like a stand up guy and as you say, in the end he did the right thing, even though he knew he would suffer for it.

When it comes to Mrs Rowland .... I can't help thinking, acquired love for the club notwithstanding, that she took great pleasure in getting one over on a man who was by all available accounts a bloody despicable excuse for a human being.

The book could be a really interesting read.

Given Simon Pia's involvement, I wonder what the take will be on STFs role in it all...

It would be the first time, in a long time, that we would hear his take on the story. I am very happy that STF saved our club from the grubber and it is only conjecture that there may have been other possible saviours or whether they might have been successful. I have a track record of defending what I believe to have been his entrepreneurial contribution to the saving of our club. However, I also believe that Simon Pia was a good journalist and that he may have something constructive and, perhaps or, informative to add to the story. Certainly I believe STF was a hard business man to deal with and would not have risked losing. I will definitely be buying a copy of this book when it comes out and try to keep an open mind.

SPs "battle" with Farmer came after HoH, when it looked like we were moving to Straiton.

I’ve always been surprised that a bigger story was never made of the Sheila Rowland thing.

It’s a big deal for Hibs fans who were around at the time but I’ve always felt it was a tale that would capture the imagination of the wider footballing public.

Especially given that the modern day singing of “Sunshine on Leith” has done so - a dramatisation of the Hibs decline, the share issue, the hostile takeover attempt, the rallies, the votes, the victory then maybe even the decades later Scottish Cup win, fancy stadium and “thriving” club… just feels to me like it’s a story that needs told to a wider audience, even with a bit of embellishment.

Maybe my kids need to grow up, my business sold and an entirely different skill set adopted…

Yep and I suspect there there is a story that needs telling. Open mind and can’t wait to open the book.

True, but it was one of the consequences of HoH winning. We were a financial wreck but had significant land holdings or at least options at Straiton that resulted in some lucrative property deals for STF and his pal TH. Not saying that Hibs didn’t benefit in some way but it will be interesting to see it fleshed out when emotions have stilled and time has passed

My exact thought. Wouldn’t be happy if this was timed to come out after STF has passed on and he hasn’t been given the opportunity to respond or correct

Exactly. Hopefully my fears are unfounded.
