    Scottish Junior cup final today

Johnstone Burgh v Tranent at Broadwood.

    BBC Alba from 4pm

    Mon the belters.

I remember the junior cup finals used to be at hampden, great for the players to play at the national stadium, now it seems to get chucked into any old ground.

It was played at Ibrox as well back in the 80s. Mind seeing Bo’ness winning it in early 80s - the Lexie Shields final. I found the highlights on YouTube the other day! And if you like fitbaw books, the Thistle and the Grail by Robin Jenkins is all set about the chase for the Junior Cup in the 1930s by a fictional team. A really good book

My wife’s brother in law played for Linlithgow Rose when they beat Baillieston in the 1965 final at Hampden in front of a 25000 crowd. Colin Grant who later signed for Hibs also played in that game.

Was at the Penicuik junior Cup finals in 1970 30000 plus at the first game about 15000 at the replay. Two of the Penicuik side had played for Clery YMCA who my dad coached. Went to the games in the company of Maude McFarlane.

I was at both the games as well as the semi final against Ashfield at Brockville. Brilliant times but got beat in the replay by Blantyre.

Was at the final the following year Cambuslang v Newtongrange 25000 at that game one of my neighbours played for Newtongrange and I knew Ian Printy well was in Maudes company for that one as well.. Some Scottish cup semi finals struggle to get attendances like that now.

Yeah Graham Doran’s as well but think he’s injured.

Lafferty is apparently on 1.6k a week there, crazy money for junior football.

What’s the script with the Junior Cup these days, given Tranent left the Juniors. Who gets in to it?

I recognise him, definitely referreed some youth games. Dreadful decision there, never a red and tranent will be fuming.

That's a soft booking for the Tranent lad that's got him sent off. Very soft.
