Does seem a clear conflict between Mcinnes normal signings eg usually big physical and British based with the JTA global database
I think the biggest issue will be that Mcinnes simply won’t play half of them

They’re already suggesting the lad McEntee is coming in as a centre mid. That will probably be along with Baningime and Devlin 🤣

They’ve signed a Norwegian right back, he’ll be on the bench whilst he converts Kent to a right back.

Totally agree that we will sign another keeper to challenge Smith for the jersey which is a must actually , competition is always good to have in a team . That’s also what I’m saying in Smith has consistently been good last season so I think Gray will stick with him as No.1 at the start of the new season and whoever the other keeper is we get will have to bide his time in getting a chance much like Smith did .

When / If he does it will be up to the new guy to then take his chance . What some are saying in we will sign another keeper who will just walk in and replace our current keeper because he might be better I don’t will happen under Gray . New keeper will have to earn the jersey or Smiths form dips to give him a chance.
The caveat to the walking in and replace Smith I would say is that there is a chance that if we're looking to spend a couple hundred thousand on the Austrian keeper there is a reasonable chance that the football department have already earmarked him as better than Smith. In which case he could find himself out of the starting spot on that alone.

Whatever does happen though I trust Gray to make the right decision for the team.

Hoilett on another year is a no-brainer for me, he still looks in good nick and has another year in him at this level, you would think he would want to stay for another year, would be sad to lose Rocky who has been looking like he might be starting to reach his potential.

Good luck to the youth players released.

Actually the Sallinger rumour makes more sense than the Paulsen to me and maybe if we are spending a fair bit he is earmarked as a better keeper or at least one that will challenge Smith . My money is still on Gray will probably stick with Smith mainly due to the level and consistency of his performances though will be interesting to see what he does , like you I trust him to make the right decision for the team. 👍

    100% agree on Hoilett

I think McGrath is partial to an injury too, so having someone like Hoilett to fill in or just compete with him would be a huge bonus

    Of course it’s possible.

The goalkeeper that starts next season will be the one that Gray considers the best. I’m surprised people seem to be suggesting that they think that won’t be the case because they think we’ll see being fair to Smith to be more important

If Smith starts the season in goals it’ll be because the club think he’s our best goalkeeper. It would be doing him a disservice to suggest he could be played purely because it wouldn’t be fair to drop him. There’s not a chance in hell David Gray will care about anything other than getting the best team out on the pitch.
Too much sentiment on here sometimes.

    From a happy clapper.

I wouldn't think a goalkeeper that is currently a number one would move from Austria to Scotland without assurances that he will be number one here.

    Ian Gordon in a recent meeting with fans;

“We believe that the strategy with Black Knights can get us to a different level and type of players required can allow us to really build in this area of player trading. On Black Knights, the last 10 months has been positive but especially since Tim (Bezbatchenko) came in; it improves every day and we’re in a really good spot as we have shared ambitions and end goals.”

I agree and it was nice when we had the choice of Marciano or Bogdan.

For whats its worth i would love us to bring Rocky back to the club he was a quality keeper.

Jeez man, how many Rockys do you want at the club at the same time 😉

Don’t really know tbh what assurances we would make to him or even Smith for that matter when he signed his new contract . Both keepers a good age and like Smith I noticed there’s been a few seasons a part from the last two Sallinger didn’t play much .

If we get euro league football, we might get one GK doing euro games and another doing League games, cup games could be given to one or the other, works down south.....good problem to have ...

Certainly going to need good options in the squad this season in rotating the first team all right . Having a couple of good keepers is important . We have one , hopefully Sallinger is another 🤞

Not one player should get assurances that he's a guaranteed 1st pick, this is a team game and the best player in form at that time will be picked. Smith came in as a back up and due to Bursik being gash, found himself as the starting keeper, something he hadn't been for a good few years, he did reasonably well (got a new deal) and kept the jersey, if we sign a better keeper and Smith is then back to being no.2 then tough ****. This will be the case for all position, look at Nicky Cadden, our best player at the time, got injured, Obita came back in and took his chance, Cadden had to sit on the bench for the last good few games, that's how it works.

That’s why I said I didn’t know what assurance we’d make to either player when responding to post #2137 when it was said a keeper that was No.1 coming from Austria would have been given assurances about being No.1. I don’t think any assurances would be given as both would have to fight it out for the Jersey who our current keeper has possession off and will probably have at the start of the new season IMO .

Looked very sharp the second half of the season I don't expect that to drop off a cliff. Still has a role to play can definitely give us an hour or a good option for 30mins off the bench.

This is my takeaway on the whole situation, we need 2 good players in every position including GK.

I think thats what most folk would want, however the 2 issues with that are you are basically paying for a 22 player first team squad, and you have to "manage" players not getting a game. Thats why sometimes you have to sign a jack of all trades type player who can cover a few positions. We dont have the budget otherwise.

Wonder what happens with Owen Bevan this summer

Seems to have a nightmare 18 months with injuries.

Clearly highly rated by Bournemouth, hopefully the lad is fully recovered

I agree , we have one and now we need another to keep the one we have on his toes or who can come into the first team that’s just as good which without hopefully won’t dent the transfer budget to much as I’d like to see it used on retaining Rocky , trying to get Triantis back . If we can’t then hopefully it will be used to get quality replacements in .

Was thinking that myself when I seen the McEntee article, but then isn't Porto meant to be our target now?

Was told earlier that Lewis Miller wasn't very happy to find out we activated the contract extension.

He threw a massive wobbly hence him missing the Aberdeen defeat.

Aw poor wee lamb, signs a contract with an extension clause activated by the club and he's not happy, diddums.

Gray wanted a tall keeper and Salinger will be number one, Smith will be a great back up and the cup keeper. Good decision by SDG

Get what you mean but even the guys who weren't playing this season (Bursik etc) seemed in high spirits, if you can get the right personalities I think you can curb that, plus it depends on the man management as well which going by reviews from the first team, is one of SDG's best qualities, have also heard great things about Craig & May and how they interact with players.

Absolutely, if we bring in Sallinger, Hoilett & Rocky new contract and Triantis back either permanently or loan.

We can then start focusing on potentially areas where we aren't as strong.

Plus getting Mcgrath in and Sallinger in early is brilliant from the club, getting the business done early in anticipation for a big season ahead.
