Any sufferers on here?
Crippled me last weekend. Never had anything like it before. Still a niggling twinge lingering and awaiting blood tests
Any tips on managing/keeping at bay. Hoping it's a one time occurrence but keen to make any changes that lower the likelihood of returning

From a personal perspective, I’ve not had a repeat since I started dieting. I think that’s the key to prevention. The dieting goes hand in hand with cutting out things like processed meat, red meat, cheese and other processed foods.
I also exercise daily (on my mountain bike) but sometimes when I don’t hydrate properly I can feel my toes beginning to ‘twinge’ again. Now if I feel anything I take a Naproxen tablet and drink plenty of water.
I still eat some of the stuff I shouldn’t but I’ve cut right down. Try and reduce your Alcohol intake. I can still have a couple of beers and a few whiskies but I’d be risking it if I had a session these days.
Hope it calms down. I seem to have controlled mines for now and I don’t want that ***** coming back!

It used to be called the Rich Man's Disease because it mostly afflicted well fed men of a certain age. Diet and hydration is the key.

Aye I'm sure I've posted about it on here before, possibly on the PM board.
It's horrendous. Last couple of flare ups I had I couldn't put a sock on or even have the bed covers touching my foot. I've found drinking plenty water helps avoid flares. When it does occur keeping the impacted joint elevated and taking cherry extract supplements has definitely helped for me (not cured by any stretch but definitely alleviated symptoms a bit an maybe shortened the duration by a day or so as well).
As said above managing your alcohol intake and cutting down the know trigger foods will help keep things at bay as well.PM Awards General Poster of The Year 2015, 2016, 2017. Probably robbed in other years

I’m on medication for it, which by and large has dropped the flare ups, which were very painful, and heavy swelling.
I do have lingering issues with footwear across the knuckles of my toes on one foot, anything that’s quite right will be causing a lot of pain and discomfort pretty quickly.

Really appreciate the responses folks. Doctors now arranged bloods to be done in a few weeks where I assume they'll check my levels and whether or not I need daily medication to keep at bay or if lifestyle alterations can decrease my flare ups
A few suggestions around dieting and other than cutting out the processed crap is there anything specifically you'd recommend? Generally we're good at cooking from scratch for dinner, it's breakfast lunch and snacking that lets me down
Still feeling twinges from the first attack. Hopefully that clears off so I can get outside and exercise

Worst pain I’ve ever had, on tablets for it now I take allopurinol. Best thing I ever done not had a flare up in years

Allopurinol as well.Colchicine for flare up if required.At moment well controlled.

Port would definitely be a trigger food, most alcohol is because the body creates uric acide when processing it. Basically anything with a high purine content has to be cut out or eaten in moderation so red meat, offal, some fish etc.PM Awards General Poster of The Year 2015, 2016, 2017.
