I'm thinking they'll go for a 'proper' Hearts man next time around. A Paul Hartley type, or John McGlynn.

Whoever it is, they always seem to end up with someone that, from my point of view, suits them perfectly.

Cathro, Neilson, Naismith, Critchley.... none of them have any kind of personality, character, or aura about them. Or an identity. They're just so meh at best, weird at worst.

With Fox seeing out the season, and the new guy unlikely to be in post until the transfer window is open, they could really struggle to sort out their squad this summer.

I heard Don Cowie’s name being mentioned as their first choice target today.

I think he was at Hearts before wasn’t he?

Yeah Darren McGregor took his rib cage out in a derby at Tiny.

That's their sole purpose though. They could finish third and not win a derby and the boss would get the sack.
I wonder if they've ever had a high place finish without winning a derby. It's a fixture which tends to prop them up hugely (even when they're bang average) due to our frustratingly grim record in the fixture overall. On the occasions we take a grip of the derby they tend to flounder.

BBC Sport's Scotland's Brian McLauchlin, who covers Hearts every week

Been raised in the Sportsound thread but this is causing me irrational rage.
Why should the national broadcaster have a dedicated reporter for a provincial* club?!?

Sacking is sheer panic now that the playoffs become a real possibility. They'll either get a bounce or completely fall apart.

    Popcorn at the ready.

Interesting if they go for Cowie and what would make him anymore a candidate than Critchley was arguably less given his Ross County record is pretty poor. Also given Hearts are playing County could be nonsense and a desperate attempt to distract County before the game.

Just seen the Sky report about their annual awards ceremony at the EICC. The players faces when they weee asked about relegation and Critchley. Priceless.

Brilliant. Budge saying it’s yesterday’s news.

I really want her and McKinley to remain in charge of them.

Did they give themselves a trophy for best losing semi finalists?

What other awards might there be?

What the **** is that all about? They're like suspects going into court! What an utter embarrassment.

How have they got it so spectacularly wrong from such a position of strength?

Your post is spot on. A total mess and judging by Budge’s response it will continue to be so for some time

Critchley was always going to be fired for losing 2 key Hibs matches, and allowing Hibs to finish above them. It was just a matter of when. No Hearts manager can survive that combination.

That looks like a club ill equipped to face the last few games to secure their top flight status.

Will be up against seasoned bottom six battlers who know how important the next few games are and their previous experience can serve them well. Hearts look like they’re in end of season mode already.

Sleep walking towards a third relegation in 11 years.

I'm seeing the press speculating around the likes of Mcglynn, Pressley and Neilson. So much for Jamestown's wonderful Analytics.

I did read this comment in the EEN:

Hearts' partnership with Jamestown Analytics means that every head coach appointed is first scrutinised by its data system and, among the criteria candidates must adhere to, every team boss must be on board with using it for player recruitment or they will not get the job.

So a "head" coach with no authority at all! Not allowed to input into player recruitment plus other restrictions as well. No doubt the yams will tell everyone it's what big clubs do.

A wee shame they didn't manage to scrape into the top 6 as I am sure we could have turned them over again at Tynie.
