The penny has finally dropped Donald Trump today finally admitted that the way tariffs work is that you add the tariff onto the price of a product and the product doesn’t sell factor in the increased cost of parts and components and that is how you get a recession folks !

Absolutely. Putin can’t have peace because his economy would collapse (it’s going to anyway). They can’t move back to a peace time economy without a banking collapse. All the arms makers have borrowed trillions of rubies that they have zero chance of ever paying back.

I’m not sure there’s much he does understand.

I always used to think that whilst his actions were stupid, they were calculated and deliberate, arguably intelligent even but in a sinister way. I flip flop between stupidity and sinister actions, but for the last few weeks I think I’m gradually starting to just think he is genuinely thick as mince.

I work with someone who has a child studying at university in the US. They are terrified that if they come home for a visit that this will happen when they re-enters the US. And your six year old would probably quickly pick up on the problem with planning to stop income tax as a means of funding everything, and replacing the lost funds with import taxes. While also planning to dramatically reduce or do away with imports.

He is the type of person that concentrates on the last thing he heard. Boris Johnson did this too. Zero strategy unless it’s good for Donald Trump other than that he’s not interested.

He is being led by some dangerous individuals. Crazy Economic and faith based kooks. And as long as he polls well in his base he’s happy. Thing is our system allows for nutters to be replaced, and replaced quickly (see Liz Truss). The Americans don’t have such a system. Especially when the GOP is full of MAGA nuts or moderates who are too scared to put their heads over the parapet.

Other problem is there’s no opposition. Every General Election in the UK we always have an opposition. It may be weakened, but there’s a leader to coalesce around. Not so in America.
