The Torfin in Corstorphine really is a nice place to go, admittedly we go quite often so are always recognised and treated very well.
The food and atmosphere is pretty decent, a far cry from when it was The Oak Inn, The Torfin is our go to place in Corstorphine.

Currently in the Hawes Inn having a much more boozier lunch than intended, as usual never disappointed in this place.

Not the fanciest but it’s never disappointed.
We live in Leith but have loads of family over in Fife / Kinross so it makes for an ideal place to meet folk halfway, and there’s a broad enough menu that everybody always ends up with something they like.
Cracking wee spot imo.

Was in Eastern Pavilion in Corstorphine last night, haven’t been for a while, the owner Islam was in the kitchen, the food was exceptional, it beats the other Indian Restaurants in Corstorphine hands down in my opinion.

Nice wee visit to Chinese Manor House last night and never disappoints. Went for a couple of their own take on dishes with lime duck and Szechuan hot morning glory prawn and both were exceptional. Not cheap for a main at around £20, but worth it and par for the course these days.

Was in Cafe Andaluz at Raeburn Place recently.
Very little Vegan food unfortunately. I could have had chips and a choice (or both) of two salads.
They could do a Vegan Paella, but it's made for two and is £30.00. I called in advance and asked if they could make it for one. No was the reply.
On the night, I ordered the Paella. Just as well, as the other folk were still hungry after their three wee (and they were very wee) plates. Paella was demolished.
Food was good, prices were pretty expensive, service was good, portions were very small and I felt happy enough that my friends enjoyed my food, but they need to be more inclusive on the menu front.

General price of food in the city has increased a lot in the last 4-5 years, last weekend we went to the Amarone standard couple of drinks and meals for 2 £130, Choaphraya this Saturday was a sharing starter, 2 main and 2 drinks around £110, I'd say there's a good 25-30% increase which shows how much pricing has went up.

I’ve been to Tipo on Hanover Street recently and walked away just under £100 and that was with a bottle of wine, service charge etc for two. It’s a Michelin Guide restaurant. Sotto, another Michelin guide Italian, I was about £110 for two, so roughly the same as Amarone. I’m not sure where places like Amarone and Chaophraya get off charging what they do tbh, I went to Chaophraya last year and couldn’t believe the total bill for what we had, both in terms of quality and quantity.

Gurkha Cafe in Cockburn Street last week. Rustic type Nepalese decor...a bit like a base camp hut.
Very nice food and service. Larger than average portions in our curries, which was nice to see as often lots of sauce and not much meat. It was very busy. We split the bill three ways which came to just £38 each for poppadums, a starter, a mains and a pint of Everest.
Would defintely go back.

Wife went to Lido in Musselburgh with some work colleagues yesterday and said it was very good, extensive menu and reasonable prices.

The bar next door (The Black Grape) is also silly expensive and tried to charge a 17.5% service charge for two drinks which the guy brought to us 10m from the bar.
All imo 😊.
Apart from that it was all fine. Enjoy 😂.

Had a spicebag in Malone's Leith last night, very tasty and a bargain at a tenner. £7 3-7 on a Friday.

Lots of authentic Chinese restaurants seem to be sprouting up all over the southside catering for the growing Chinese student community, but mrs bollah fancied an old school western style chinese meal tonight, and had Hot Kung fu recommended. I had it about 4 years ago and not impressed, but gave it another try. Very inexpensive so no big loss but OMG it was barely edible and we ordered quite a few different things. Hard to believe how so much could go wrong, right down to the prawn crackers
Any better recommendations?
