Totally agree, don't even need a discussion.

Oh, other moments of sweetness from the weekend: Ross County should have had a penalty when ex Hib Gogic handled in the box. A goal from the spot would probably have meant a top six berth for Hearts. Sadly, its a cruel game...

I remember after the 2016 final there was a comment on Kickback saying something along the lines of that he'd been known to say he would never play for Hibs.

I think that ship has sailed now.

Of all the things that spring to mind when you hear the name David Gray, growing up a Hearts fan doesn’t even register and one of the last things you’d think of.

I had heard that before, but until reading again on this thread its something I had completely forgot about.

    Is it even actually true?

If he grew up in Edinburgh there is of course a decent chance and he obviously started his career in hearts youth but aside from occasional anecdotes about him on 13pointsback over the road there appears to be little in the way of evidence. And let's face it, they're no strangers to talking pish over there.

It is true, he grew up in a small town south of Edinburgh where his parents still live, his family and extended family are all hearts supporters as was he. However like most youngsters who make the grade I doubt he would've attended many matches as a fan as he'd have been playing, that opportunity would've been diluted further once he left for Man U.

Like any proper professional he'll do whats right for his career and look beyond any personal leanings - though i doubt he ever thought it would end up the way it has (i'd put John Roberston in a similar category).

I recall playing Glory to the Hibees on a babies xylophone in his parents house which i think would be xmas 88, much to the immediate derision of everyone else present; I always like to think it sowed the green shoots....

The fact that it was a xylophone is conclusive evidence of dyed in the wool hibbieness for me.

The Jambo equivalent would be the Stylophone

I once heard Sir David Gray say ‘ **** the Hertz’

My gimpy hearts cousin uses the fact SDG was a jambo as a way of mocking us.

I point out that John Robertson was a Hibby but he’s too thick to get it.

If Gray picked up some of the traditional jambo steel when it comes to derby matches from his background and is now using it against them... that's more than OK with me

And a Jambo would argue that a xylophone starts with a “z” 😁

Doubt it. Jambos can barely spell their own name never mind correctly spell a word with more than one syllable

He was a Man Utd supporter by the time he went to high school.

It's a lot different for a footballer. Their mindset is their loyalty goes to the teams they have played for. At the end of the day it's their employer that enables them to fulfil their dream of being a footballer. Kevin Thomson loves rangers because that's where he made a lot of money and secured his families future, as did Scott Brown with Celtic.

In David Grays case he played his best years at hibs, captained us and scored the club's most important goal. I am sure he's made a decent living out of us. Not enough to put him into the 1 percent, but enough to enable a good life for him and his family.

It defines them. It's all they have since they stopped robbing charities and pensioners

Well I do think that Mikey Stewart is a curious case.

It’s almost poetic that probably his best period was with a swashbuckling team that happened to be the Hibees.

Probably contributes to the beast that dwells within :)

Did the great Gordon Smith not grow up a Jambo too? Would be quite funny if two of our biggest legends have come from the dark side.

He was excellent for us in that midfield for the first half of that season. We had so much potential in that side, never realised.

If you go onto his Wikipedia page it says his only honour was "Denzil Haroun Reserve Team Player of the Year" whilst at Manchester United.

Ignores the fact that he won the League Cup in 2007 at Hibernian FC.
