I watch Sisu again over the weekend as it has just dropped onto Netflix UK.

Still think it is a great film albeit a bit far fetched at the end it is still an enjoyable way to watch Nazis getting killed in interesting ways. Jorma Tommila plays Aatami Korpi the almost completely silent hero who is now a miner but was a Finnish Commando in the Winter War (1939-40) against the Russians, killing hundreds of Russian Troops and earning the nickname from the Red Army of Koshchei (The Immortal).

The plot is pretty simple, the nazis are very bad, the dog is adorable and the ending quite ridiculous. Written and directed by Jalmari Helander most famous for Big Game where Samuel L Jackson plays the POTUS, it is very Tartantino-esque and the young Fin and POTUS rescuer in Big Game gets a role in Sisu, this time as the nazi tank driver. Also gets a thumbs up from me for being 90 minutes long, which I will admit is not Tarantino like at all but means I don't get DVT from sitting down to watch a movie!!
Wow ! Had never heard of this movie but absolutely fantastic was a throwback to High Plains Drifter, John Wick, Luc Busson’s Leon and every Tarantino movie

Leave your brain outside pull up a chair grab the popcorn and dim the lights

    Thanks for recommending

    Netflix

I’ve actually watched it 3 times.

It’s utterly mental but brilliant at the same time if that makes sense.

Big Game is also pretty decent too!

    SISU.
Watched after the recommendations on here. Seriously? Has to be one of the worst films Ive ever watched. There's ridiculous and then some. Utter dross.

I am impressed how it somehow managed to get a 15 rating instead of an 18 though.

It's more than a bit far fetched and not just the end 😂

It's good fun though, leave your brain parked outside.

Watched Moneyball a couple of nights ago. Not bad as sports-themed movies go.

It's a tricky genre to do well. A few very good ones which spring to mind are Field of Dreams (also baseball), The Wrestler and When We Were Kings (more of a documentary about the Rumble in the Jungle).

Any others? Rocky's an obvious one but it's so long since I saw it I'm not sure if it's actually good! Ditto a movie called Heaven Can Wait with Warren Beatty.

Depending on what sports you’re into, I like Draft Day (nfl), Rocky 3 is decent entertainment, He Got Game (basketball related), escape to victory, Le Mans 66, the damned united,

It’s a documentary but The Last Dance was pretty perfect. And i have only limited interest in the NBA. Also
Senna. Hoop Dreams. Maradona. When we Were Kings.

A couple of much older ones my dad has somewhere on VHS are Pride of the Yankees (the Lou Gehrig story) and Follow the Sun (the Ben Hogan story). Watched them both many years ago and I recall enjoying Pride of the Yankees but can't remember much about the Ben Hogan one apart from him being in a serious car crash.

Baseball has a pretty rich catalogue of movies and another I recall enjoying was Clint Eastwood's Trouble With The Curve, although his greatest sports movie (and one of his most acclaimed movies full stop) was Million Dollar Baby.

Another basketball one was ‘Hoosiers’ also known as ‘Best Shot’ in the UK, about a high school team. Mid 80s, a bit cheezy at times but a good solid rags to riches story. sadly departed Gene Hackman is as usual tremendous in it.

Other excellent one was the documentary about Stein Shankley and Busby. Three Kings?

Sennacone was sensational as was the Maradona one. The brutality he was treated too was astonishing though clearly went off the rails in Naples must have been difficult saying no to some of the characters he was mixing with

The director of Senna and Diego Maradona is Asif Kapadia, who also did the Amy Winehouse biopic. He’s the best documentary maker out there, and there have been recent and not as good documentaries on all three of these subjects recently so easy to confuse!

Rewatching newer version of Jungle Book, what a tremendous family film it is. Christopher Walken as Louie is properly scary

The Fighter with Mark Wahlberg is great. One of those sports movies where you don't need to know about sport (in this case boxing) to enjoy it.

    Ditto Seabiscuit (horse racing).

Invictus (rugby) was pretty good and while golf movies are, I think, especially hard to do well, Tin Cup gave it a decent stab.

It's not a sport (maybe e-sport) but King of Kong is a great watch about competitive arcade gaming. Some truly remarkable oddballs.

The Legend of Bagger Vance is an enjoyable watch although its premise is golf.

I'll be watching out of morbid curiosity.

Quite like Liam Neeson. He could play the role quite deadpan, the way Leslie Neilson did in the origunal tv series...

You'll never beat the original though.

Liam Neeson is really good at comedy and not taking himself too seriously but this just shouldn't be allowed!

Even as I type I'm laughing thinking about the baseball scenes in the original.

To be fair. PA has tonnes more acting credits than Priscilla Pressley had when she was cast. Has also had some positive reviews for her recent role in indie film the last showgirl.

Took the boy to see Minecraft last night. Mostly full of 12 year old boys all having a great time shouting out specific lines then applauding.

Not heard an atmosphere at the cinema like that since Rocky IV 😂

It was a decent watch and quite funny in bits - especially the scenes with Stiflers Mom
