Dwight is a young man. What I have noticed is a bit of a hip issue. He has to pump his arms hard in order to kick start his leg action.

I'm the same but I'm 70 next year.

As much as I love him and he clearly loves being here I fear that Doctors orders may take precedence over another year's contract.

I loved it when he popped the ball over Gordon even though he was well offside. It wasted another 30 seconds. You used to get booked for that now VAR checks it
Yep, knew what he was doing!

Good spot. At coming on 36 when next season starts Gayle will retire this summer after enjoying his final season. I liked his first tackle when he came on against Hearts. Full blooded through the centre of the ball.

Hoilett turns 35 just after this season ends and seems to be in better nick than Gayle with only his speed diminished but with awesome skill to compensate so he will play on.
I don't think it will be at Hibs but saying that his 20 minute cameos against tiring players are absolutely brilliant at the moment. Gets his foot on the ball with instant control and makes great decisons.

I love that Gayle and Hoilett are enjoying their time at Hibs and in Scotland - it's quite surreal to watch really. I wish more top players were willing to drop a level or two to keep playing.

I wonder if Gayle would be interested in a coaching job at Hibs if he decides to hang up his playing boots?

Would be a no brainer if he's interested imo, the experience he could pass on to Bowie/young strikers would be invaluable

You just have to look at Shanklands pathetic attempt at closing down at Iredale’s goal and ask yourself, what does Dwight Gayle do there? Thats a proper pro.

Doesn't sound like it from the Open Goal interview, he'll be retiring from playing and going back South for the kids. Guess you never know though

Sounds like it's more or less a sure thing he's retiring after this season. Only thing that could remotely tempt him to push on 1 more year would be if we finish 3rd because he'd be jealous of the boys getting the chance to play on the European stage. Something he's surprisingly never experienced.

Give him a decision to make Hibs and grab that 3rd spot!

(Still think he'll retire regardless but it'll give us some hope to hold on too. Quality player!)

He's never played with a team with a European pedigree, but he is now

Is this some kind of post-ironic in- house humour.

I suspect we have enough coaches at Hibs as it is.

Maybe, I don't know what budget we have for these things but while I wouldn't particularly like us spending money to solely keep Gayle as a player, I would be somewhat open to the idea of him signing on for a year as a player/coach as he does his badges (maybe we fund them, not that he's short of a bob or two) or something like that.

As other posters have said he'll have such valuable experience that could help the likes of Bowie or any young academy lads breaking through and he's clearly quite tight in with the squad it would help keep come consistently into next season and he could potentially still come off the bench in times of need.

It probably won't happen but I could definitely see a case for that.

Shankland didn't go near Iredale, as a reckless challenge and he would have been sent off. He was already on a booking. But in hindsight he might have been better taking one for the team.

Neither has Hoilett. I had been wondering whether it would be an incentive for both to stay on, even just for 6 months. I imagine Hoilett will be keen for regular football to get back into the Canada squad for the World Cup.

What a great guy Dwight is on Open Goal. And spoke about how SOL after the derby was a highlight of his career. Amazing.

He just seems like a top-top guy. Really humble.

Was thinking he might stick around for another year, not after watching that. Can't blame the guy for wanting to be with his kids.

Found it interesting that he mentioned he has a very distinct walk. I’ve said a few times he looks in so much pain when he’s playing but apparently he’s always looked a bit like that!

Thing I found interesting is how often Joe Newell gets a mention as someone Gayle speaks to about fairly important things such as even the idea of moving weeks in advance and managing the Lambo to training to situation.

Probably a little insight to how well respected Joe is around the place and how proactive he is as a captain.

They’ve known each other for a long time, they were teammates together at Peterborough.

That does make sense now in hindsight.

The Emerald Suite, which was previously the board room/chairman’s lounge before it moved down to the first floor.

Though that was a bit obvious. He’s not a pensioner and although he has talked about how football impacts the body he is still in the scheme of things an elite level sportsman.

My partner sometimes works with someone very high up in the FA. Says Bruce is a grade A whopper.
