The state of road markings in the city. In particular, the bit of the West Approach Road going westbound just after Lothian Road, the road markings are just about non-existent. I'm surprised there's not more wee accidents due to it. Quite a few examples elsewhere as well.

Selfish drivers: approaching a 90ish degree left hand curve, with a council truck parked partly on the opposite kerb, one side of the vehicle still on the road. A double decker bus was approaching from the opposite direction, the obstruction (truck) is on his side of the road, but he just piled on through, on my side of the road, forcing me to brake hard to avoid crashing into him.

Funnily enough I had a near miss a few weeks ago there and a girl at my work actually had a wee bump , they decided it was t cutttable so didn't rake it further.
It's bad enough on 'normal' roads but the secton we're talking about has the lanes moving over to allow for a bus stop then a cycle lane then cuts back over once the cylcel lane ends :-/

Yeah no one has a clue where the lanes are.

Queen street at Fredrick street is bad as well not helped by the lane changing direction.

The state of the roads across Edinburgh is a nightmare for that. I thought it was me at first, maybe just my eyesight getting worse as I’m getting older but I can see a difference on properly marked roads.

The road markings at Newbridge were a nightmare until they were redone maybe a year or so ago. Felt drivers just closed their eyes and moved forward half the time 😭

In the great scheme of things surely road markings are 'relatively' cheap for the benefits in traffic flow?

I did think when the lines were all redone on lothian road at the end of the approach road it was only a matter of time until that was done too, especially as it seemed like it needed it more in the first place! :rofl:

These idiots cutting about on the Quad bike and electric bikes around Edinburgh. Just saw them on the Glasgow Road, came out of the side road by the BBQ chippy and deliberately crossed the traffic to head towards Corstorphine in the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic. WTF are they all about.

Tossers who refuse to acknowledge 20 mph restrictions and have a go at folk who do. I understand their frustration but their behaviour is unbelievable. I was driving through Howgate towards Edinburgh at 20 mph and there’s a woman behind, who can’t overtake because of oncoming traffic and clearly wants me to speed up. She is literally two yards from my rear bumper and I can see her shaking her head and glaring at me. She gives me a couple of toots for good measure. As we pass the end of speed restriction sign, she’s still up my arse as I begin to pick up speed. She still can’t overtake right away, but when she can, she gives me the flashing lights and puts the foot down to overtake. There’s a car turning right at the wee road out of Penicuik. The driver gauges my speed and correctly sees he has time to safely exit. He doesn’t see the lunatic behind me who is now tearing up the road on the wrong side. Fortunately there is just about time for her to brake heavily and slow down but it was really hairy.

I sometimes use my daughter’s car, she’s 18 so to get insured at a semi reasonable cost she had a black box fitted, which means I have to be really careful with speed limits when I’m borrowing it.

20 limit roads are horrendous for folk being impatient and getting frustrated but you would be amazed at how many repeat that behaviour at 30,40,50,60, and 70 limits. We’re almost at the point that, for a very high proportion of drivers, most of the rules of the road simply get ignored with speed limits being completely redundant in some areas.

Id say the majority of drivers ignore the 20mph limit to be honest.

At a guess most are going along at 25ish on them.

Don't agree that it's the same for the higher limits though, I'm my experience 30/40/50 ect are, for the most part, adhered to.

I would agree but this is more about the idiots who lose the plot with 20mph.

2 gripes in 1 here, people turning right at a crossroads.
A) not going far enough right so no one can pass on the inside.
B) going too far past the turn and then having to do an almost u turn to turn right.

I got stuck behind a guy at the lights at Corstorphine Tesco the other night - on Meadow Place Road heading towards the Drumbrae Roundabout. The lights changed several times and he didn't move despite me beeping the horn at him. Eventually lights changed again and he edged forward, only to stop at which point I twigged this guy doesn't know how junctions with multiple different lights work. He thought the red light for the right turn meant he couldn't go - I could see him point to the red light. He eventually moved when everyone was aggressively beeping their horns. I often wonder how some folk pass their test.

Driving in general just now. This is generally a bad time of the year for driving as disruptions are common as councils try to use up their remaining budget for the year. But the present is really past a joke. No matter where you go there are temporary traffic lights, ( many which don’t function properly ) diversions and road closures, often without prior warning. Nightmare.

They now use the cycle/pathways to get about, they can get from Muirhouse to Broomhouse in a few minutes, maybe time the council put up more barriers at entrances to stop them from getting the bikes and quad bikes on to pathways, it seems to be a losing battle though as there seems to be hundreds of them now.

Related. Junction of Craigentinny Road/Craigentinny Avenue travelling east. The number of folk coming up from Seafield who totally ignore the give way at the junction is unreal. I’m always extra careful when I’m turning right at that junction to head towards Porty Road. Always cars coming up and turning right having ignored the give way. Surprised there haven’t been more serious accidents.

People who can’t drive in ocean terminal car park properly. It’s not hard., one side for going up the other for going down.

Folk ignoring the one way system at the Western General, specifically at the multi-storey car park. I've been almost every day visiting my dad who has been in the Western for the past three weeks and the amount of times I've seen someone that must have gone into either the top or lower deck, not found a space, exited but turned right and driven the wrong way up the one way street to re-enter the car park on the other floor is insane. I appreciate its a badly designed car park in that you can't freely drive between the two floors but is it that much of an imposition to just drive round the block again?

Mind you that car park is a peeve in its own right. The above mentioned inability to move between the two levels; cars parked/abandoned not in an actual space; the low number of spaces to begin with; the fact that people just queue and wait once in, meaning if you are behind and realise there's no space you can't actually exit for ages to go park on the street somewhere instead; the inexplicable fear that the exit barrier is going to come crashing down on you when you are exiting one floor at the same time as someone is exiting the other floor

Not a peeve but just an absolute idiot of a driver the other night.

I was driving down Telford Road and waiting to turn into the Western. There was a car waiting to turn right out of the Western onto Telford Road. Traffic coming in the other direction cleared so I started to cross the carriageway to turn into the road into Western. Just then a car behind the car that was waiting to turn right on Telford Road but was obviously wanting to turn left onto Telford Road must have decided he couldn't be arsed waiting so overtook the car, blocking my path. I had to slam on the brakes and traffic heading up from the roundabout was oncoming again at speed who also had to stop. That's the most I've shat it driving since I crashed a car and wrote it off 20 years ago.

Being a hot day yesterday 18 degrees decided to take the grand kids to Burntisland for day on the beach

Came off the By Pass at the Cowdenbeath Burntisland turnoff only to be met by a tail back

We sat for 20 minutes in a roasting car waiting for the traffic lights to change but no luck

Turned out there were no lights but traffic was being controlled slowly by an escort vehicle

Thinking about the long delay and the journey back with tired kids we decided to cut our losses and head for Pittencrieff Park

I am sure there were other beach route options but we do not know the area

Delays expected to last for at least another 2 weeks

Silver Sands beach at Aberdour is worth it. Easy to get to and park and you can see Easter Road, at a stretch
