Regarding the wire, would recommend giving it a watch, Omar will be always be one of my favourite characters in any show.

Have not long finished Oz again which was another classic HBO shows.

David Simon, who also wrote Treme and The Deuce, both of which are among my favourite US series.

I think you likely know this, but for clarity for other poster, David Simon was a journalist, he wrote a book "Homicide: a year on the killing streets" which then led to the Homicide show, featuring many of the same stories.

Ed Burns was the former cop who worked with Simon on that, plus then becoming screenwriter on The Corner and The Wire. He worked in the Homicide unit.

Yeah I've been watching it and enjoying it despite it being all a bit daft. Kinda gives me Prison Break vibes, where it's kinda dumb but the twists and turns make it enough fun to stick with.

It probably helps. I've only watched 1 episode, but certainly to understand the weight and connections between certain characters, it might otherwise be confusing if you haven't.

I may have to give this a go again, I watched most of the first series and just thought it was crap! Maybe it's a very very slow burner like Ozark as that ended up being one of the finest shows ever.

So good eh? I’m also tempted to watch it all over again! I don’t remember a slow or poor season.

I really liked the ending, I thought it was well done with a nice surprise.

Ivor the boneless was some boy but Ubbe was my favourite son.

Ragnar and Lagertha tho, got to be up there as 2 of the best tv characters ever!

No idea how historically accurate it is (probably not very) but I don’t care as it’s just outstanding viewing.

I watched it 1 episode and it wasn't for me , But all my mates rave about it ! Might have to give it another go at some point

Like you, I was in two minds after the first episode but I stuck with it and enjoyed the first season. The body count stretches credulity but the cast are really strong performers.
