I may have mentioned this once or twice before... OK, quite a few times :-)

I was over the moon when I was in Germany and bought the football magazine '11 Freunde' and saw this article on Sunshine on Leith.

    https://www.11freunde.de/welt-des-fu...0-000001668912

They voted it the best football anthem ever.

Imagine being a Jambo. Even walking away from the stadium there would be no escaping it. Fantastic.
If the south stand was on fire they could not have got out any quicker. They were literally running out and jumping over seats to get out when it started up

When was last time SoL was played two games in a row at Easter Road?
It was fantastic. Even some Jambos and Celtic supporters sang their praises and declared it the best club anthem on the planet. Not unexpectedly, quite few Huns were sneering that it was sung today, with comments such as “ Did they win the league today?” and “ The cup final’s not been played yet.” Sour grapes at it’s sourest.

I actually know a few huns who love it. Some of them latched on that time they won the league at Easter Road but for a lot of people it’s just a great song.

The praise it's getting on the socials is great. Folk are falling in love with the Hibees

It's all the ***** times that make the beautiful times so beautiful.

Something so special about this song is it’s completely unique to Hibs.

Celtic and Liverpool have the same song.

Other clubs have tried to force anthems but this is just such a special song for Hibs only.

The comments on Hibs X have loads of other fans commenting about it and many other fans saying they would visit Easter Road to try sample it one day.

Yesterday with the players linked up showed the unity at the club and loved the celebrations.

One of the best things about it is that it’s sung only at big wins. It would lose something if it was otherwise.

If it wasn't for the fact that the song is literally named for our location then Celtic would have stolen it years ago. It must sicken them that they can't.

100%. I don't want to hear it again now until May after the Scottish Cup Final

Fans of numerous clubs in Scotland and England, as you say even Rangers fans, have spoken with me about how good it is. Plenty fans of all persuasions are also fans of the Proclaimers, which helps, but what really sets the song apart is that it's unique to us. There's no other club which can sing about sunshine on Leith and have it make sense.

What a great day, great result and could not stop the a tear from falling as I belted out SOL from the West Upper Stand, outstanding to everyone, we are hibs.

One thing I’ve noticed over the course of this run is the embracing of our core songs by the fans. Both Glory Glory and Hibs Heroes are now being sung by the fans to great effect (having previously been just played almost as a background) with SoL obviously saved for the big games but getting a more regular outing rather than just cup finals. It’s great as they are core to our identity (thanks Mikey) and help solidify our special brand in the footballing world.

What I love is that it’s a straight forward love song, not towards a person but towards an inanimate location or situation. Its is utterly harmless and non confrontational. It’s about people being in harmony with a place or moment in life. Anyone that finds it difficult to handle is needs to find some inner peace and ditch their own anger.
It doesn’t surprise me but is sad that there is a kickback tonight in some quarters. Some people may get a little confused when there is no edge at all in a song. It’s a thing of beauty

I do find it ironic that the the rangers fans sing Caledonia as an anthem though.
Another beautiful song with no edge to it. The irony being that it’s a love song specifically about Scotland and its roots. Bless them

We are danger of it being overused now. Winning far too many big games these days

Think you take it for granted how many times it was sung after a big win during Stubbs/Lennon times. It felt like an absolute age since it was sung and played before beating Hearts in April 23 and it felt and sounded much better than you can remember.

The bit in bold is another thing that adds to the uniqueness. You can’t just turn up at ER and here it any time. Its spontaneous and only sung in certain moments. To hear it in the flesh, you just “have to be there” - in the moment.

Two older women at work asked me today, when it will next be sung as they would like to get tickets to see it, both aren't interested in football. Had to tell them it doesn't work like that unfortunately ha

Oh man. Wet eyes at the game and wet eyes again watching this. We are so, so lucky to have that as our anthem. The football world really loves it, everywhere.

A truly special song for a truly special club.
I'm sure this has been answered numerous times but when was the first time we sang it? AEK?

That's the first time I remember it but I've heard it was played at the hands off hibs rally at Easter Road in '90?

Most clubs don’t have what we have. Will never take it for granted. SOL is really, really special.

When we played Blackpool in 2023, some Blackpool Fans told us after the match that they were really disappointed with our support that day because we didn't sing Sunshine on Leith.

One of them said that was part of the reason he was there, to join in
