    Passport Renewal

Decided to renew our passports early as by the time we travel later in the year they will only have 5 months left on them. What a tremendous service, renewed online, updated by text on every step from receipt of old one to printing then despatch. Process completed in five days! Obviously a great time of year to renew.

Recently done mine from Germany. Same as you but it took 10 days from filling out the online application to having it in my hand. Great service but it's a funny colour though.

Funnily enough my Mum has just done the same, she did it all online and the fact she didn't ask me for help with any of it says it's really easy and she had her new one within a week, I last renewed mine about 2020 and it was seamless for me too

Good to hear that a Government agency which was in real trouble just a few years ago seems to have turned itself around.

Yes, the software will tell you if the photo is acceptable.

I couldn't find a spot in the house that didn't have a shadow so it wasn't accepted. I ended up just going to the one of the booths in Tesco and getting it done there. You get a code that you upload to the online application so you don't need to physically submit the photo.

Annoyingly, I don't know if I didn't have the curtain properly closed and I didn't notice until I had it printed but you could see a flash of light in the photo. Luckily, it was entirely over a bit of my hair so just looks like a patch of white hair so it was accepted no problem.

I went to Max Spiellman at Tesco and got a code with my photo. The lassie took my photo and uploaded it to the gov site there and then and they tell you if it will be accepted or not.

How much is a passport these days? I never renewed mine a couple years ago and really should get one.

I've got to renew mine as well but I am tremendously upset to have to get a blue passport. Maybe it's time to try and get dual nationality under my Hungarian wife???

I applied online on the 29th of January and received my new passport this morning.
    Very impressed with the service.

Is a blue passport not more aesthetically pleasing than a maroon one?

I'm trying to detach myself from the colour and what it represents in football terms

You have a choice. A passport issued by a right-wing reactionary wannabe Trumpet-led Government.

    Or a Hungarian one

Got both, boy has too. It's just the wife that holds us up at customs.

I’m starting the process of getting an Irish one purely because I’m jealous she gets to walk straight through customs while I’m stood there like an idiot waiting on someone stamping my passport.

Oh you can imagine the political discussions we have in our house! It's weird, all Hungarians I speak to absolutely detest Orban but somehow he always seems to smash

This is EXACTLY why I want it! Can't mind where we were going but she ended up going through, getting the cases and finished a main meal in a restaurant before I had even got through - actually it was Geneva.

Anyone got an app recommendation for photo approval? My wife downloaded one which is asking for £6.99 per photo, is it legit?

If you do it using the passport renewal site then you just take a picture on your phone as part of the process

As others have said it's tremendous process these days!

Photo taken at a photo booth and uploaded to the passport website on Saturday and new passport had arrived by Thursday - absolutely blown away by this

I did this last year, it tells you exactly what it wants, a bit trial an error with lighting and distance and done at 2nd attempt, the site will tell you once it's acceptable, I got my passport in around 5 days.
