Poor result that. We desperately need to give u20s real rugby games. 2 pro teams just isn’t enough really
Our U20s have never been successful, yet in spite of that, the national side IS flourishing.

We've only had 1 year of the A teams for Edinburgh and Glasgow being introduced. Better regional academies and school systems, rather than more pro-teams is the answer IMO.

Not very gentlemanly and the rules should be changed
Longstanding contractual agreement between the RFU and the Prem clubs that selected players are released the weekend prior, thus allowing England double the prep time before their first match, whether 6NC or Autumn Tests. I agree it means it's not a level-playing field, but it hasn't done them much good in recent years!

Ireland v England is a gripping encounter.

What's with the green trim on the Scotland shirts? Obviously it's a colour I like but I never get why they feel the need to add anything to the straightforward navy blue and white. The purple element seems thankfully to have disappeared.

Yep might save Engerland from the wooden spoon.

We done enough today but the intensity must be stepped up next week for the Ireland game.

don't ask me why but i think England will beat France next week and win all their remaining fixtures as well if they lose to France i'm sure they will still beat us/Wales & Italy

i also think Wales will win in Italy next week, therefore Scotland will really need to beat Wales at Murrayfield in the next again round as i feel we will lose the other three.

    we'll see

I would be astonished if this England team manage to beat France, but stranger things have happened. I reckon they will lose and that’s their chances of winning the tournament done.

Scotland will beat Wales, Italy probably will too - they are truly awful. Scotland will fancy themselves to beat England, again, but the run can’t go on forever. Hopefully it goes for another year at least, especially as I’m going to Twickenham!

There were periods where we could have been better, sure, but a lot of bed-wetting in the wake of a bonus point win on day 1!

Could we improve, yes. Were there players below par, absolutely. Was our discipline worrying, naturally.

Second and in a good place ahead of Ireland visiting next week.

Agree and tbh I think the character we showed to pull away again at 19-19 was probably better for this group than a thumping win (which it could have been).

I would start Jordan at 12 next week, thought we looked much more settled with him. Next week will be a massive challenge but I still think Ireland look like they can be got at, much less daunting compared with a year to 18 months ago.

First round went as expected. Next week heart says Scotland win, head says Ireland in a tight game. France to beat England and Italy to beat Wales. Our bonus point win against an ever improving Italy was a good result. They are no pushover and especially at home will be tough to beat

I thought Italy looked a bit like a Scotland team from 10-12 years ago. Competent, hard working, but lacking in finishers and inspiration. They got a relatively lucky try from an interception (kudos to the guy for making the interception and running it home), and kept in touch by excellent goal kicking. Scotland could have scored a few more, and it felt a bit nervy because most of their points came in a smallish part of the game, if their 19 is more spread across the 80 minutes, it wouldn’t have felt as pressured. Even then, tied at 19, Scotland tidied themselves up, and went and scored 2 good tries, they didn’t seem as flustered as the crowd

A pretty fair summary to be honest. As Finn said after the game, most of our mistakes were individual errors, so it's addressable before Ireland arrive next week. Of course Ireland eventually put the foot down and pulled away from England but if we fix the penalties and individual errors from Saturday, and are otherwise as clinical, I see no reason we can't undo the hex they seem to have on us just now - they definitely didn't look AS strong as in previous years.

That Italian side will pose every team in the competition a challenge this year - their backs are formidable and they have serious power in their pack. They're just a smidgeon slow defensively and gave away some silly penalties themselves.

Is local grassroots rugby really struggling? I live round the corner from Forrester Rugby Club and got a leaflet through the door from them the other night which was basically a begging letter asking people to donate through a GoFundMe page as they were struggling financially. Also encouraging locals to use the bar, etc.

Think we'll pop along for a drink when there is football on the telly.

I could give you a very very long answer but in short, yes and the SRU do didly squat to help. Get along and help them out, become an associate member and when nonot watching Hibs go along and have a beer and watch a game. I remember playing Forresters with Alloa 2nd XV a few times

Yep, both me and my wife have signed up as associate members - we'd rather do that than donate through a GoFundMe. Plus we are thinking of maybe hiring their hall for my wife's 40th so will get a discount through the membership. They have a touch rugby membership too, so might change my membership to that next season if I fancy taking that up and schedules suit.

Edit: plus side too - Green (and black) is the club colours

Brilliant, well done. Small local rugby clubs need all the help they can get

But for a couple of knock-ons in the 2nd half they could have had us in real trouble. 1/10 Scotland and 7/1 Italy were ridiculous odds. Italy should beat Wales and I won't be surprised if at least one of England, Ireland and France don't get a bonus point win against them, so in the end a bonus point win for us was excellent. Could have done with both Ireland and England not getting their bonus points.

i honestly think England have been unlucky of late it would be brilliant getting at least one more win at the allianz this season to keep that run going

i felt everything just seemed to go a tad flat, our performance and the crowd, i think the England bonus point will have more an effect on us than the Irish one.

    anyway

Scotland still in pos 6 in the Rankings, IF Italy beat Wales and Georgia beat The Netherlands they will swap 11th and 12th positions

No issues with our starting 15 - really strong. That bench is really weird though. I don't any difference makers on there and the lack of backs is particularly worrying, should anything happen to Darcy, Blair or Duhan...

France have dropped the ball five times, 2 in try scoring positions. Even Dupont. They don’t look that clever under a bit of pressure
