In retaliation for last nights cruel and unusual punishment, tonight I am subjecting the good lady to Star Trek II. Great film, one of my all time favourites, justice is done
By far the best of the original Star Trek films with Mr Roarke from Fantasy Island as Khan, Quality!!

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

I was a bit wary of going to see this. I wasn't sure Chalamet would cut it but I enjoyed it way more than I expected. Great performances all round, especially the musical performances, while the 60s recreation is beautifully done. The power of Dylan's work really blows you away. Terrific stuff from Edward Norton as Pete Seeger too.

    Numerous Oscar nominations incoming.

Watched Alien Romulus at the weekend on Disney Plus

Not as scary or thrilling as I thought it would be. Looked stunning though

Watched Labriynth with my daughter yesterday. Thought she might find it scary but she loved it. Time moves on, but we’ve lost something from the simple charm of Jim Henson puppets.

Midnight in Paris was on the other night. Head and shoulders the best of Woody Allen's latter day offerings. Owen Wilson a rarity in being able to carry off the 'Allen' role.

    I saw it last night,

It was interesting and enjoyable enough and Chalamet is convincing as Dylan, but I'd have been happier with subtitles because my god does he mumble.

The film doesn't show Dylan in a very good light, in terms of his personal life.

Although it's based on his life, there's a fair amount of artists license taken but I'll let you see for yourself.

A decent watch, good music. 8/10

Dylan gave the movie his approval and had a few script meetings with the director so I guess he was OK with the way his personal life was portrayed.

He may have been happy, but he doesn't come across very well, so that suggests he was much worse in reality.

Arguably the greatest-ever live gig movie, Stop Making Sense, is on at the Cameo on Saturday night.

    Byrne's Night, of course.

    I'd suggest not even arguable.

Those have documentary elements to them though, similar to many great films about music? Stop Making Sense is purely live concert footage as I recall, which sets it apart to some extent. I haven't seen it for many years so I may be wrong.

    Very good!

It's not just arguably the greatest, it is the greatest by a stretch.

    You're correct.

I've seen it dozens of times, the last being just before Christmas. It's bloody brilliant.

I always argue with myself, though

Having just heard about the passing of Garth Hudson, the last remaining member of The Band, I'm also arguing in favour of The Last Waltz. (disclaimer. It does have interviews in it, by Scorsese, so maybe that disqualifies it).

The other one that is always in the conversation for me is Concert For Bangla Desh. It was the first one I ever saw in the cinema, so it had a massive impact.

Something I just learned about A Complete Unknown.

Timothee Chalamet actually sings all the songs! I thought he was miming.

    Wow!

Monica Barbaro, Edward Norton, and Boyd Holbrook also perform songs as Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, and Johnny Cash, respectively.

    Very impressive stuff.

Hmm. My suggestions for that honour, in no particular order:

    • Saucerful of Secrets live at the Roundhouse
    • Don't Look Back (documentary contining live music - does that count?)
    • Woodstock
    • PULSE
    • Yessongs
    • The Last Waltz
    • Concert for Bangla Desh
    • Peter Gabriel Secret World live
    • Rolling Stones Shine A Light

The album is available again on the streaming services. Notable for the crowd applauding wildly after a few minutes of Ravi Shankar playing at which point he says 'If you appreciated the tuning so much I hope you’ll enjoy the music even more.’
    Every gimmick hungry yob,
Digging gold from rock and roll
Grabs the mic to tell us,
    He'll die before he's sold.

Couple of live Elvis films, the 68 Comeback and That's The Way It Is contain some great stuff, that latter from his Vegas residency.

Some of the best Clash live footage (re-used many times since in other films/documentaries) is contained in the film Rude Boy, while still on the punk theme there's a film called Punk in London, which was shot by a guy from Germany and features a lot of the early English punk bands performing live - also includes a Clash gig in Hamburg IIRC.

Tombstone was on film4 last night.

    Such a quality movie.

Also watched The Game with Micheal Douglas the previous night another decent movie but maybe hasn’t aged so well.

Watched Hangover 1 and 2 and they never disappoint, apart from Tysons wooden acting.

Watched Gladiator 2 last night and wasnt too impressed, the storyline seemed to be all over the shop and I felt it was difficult to keep up with at times.
