Isn't that how all number #1s are achieved these days.

Yep, it used to be record sales not what's on your play list. I have 3,500 tunes on my Spotify playlist and not one of them is a Christmas tune, so at this time of year thousands add Xmas tunes and they become no.1, hence why Britains No.1 tunes nowadays are nonsense due to the digital age, jeez we had that Ladbaby rubbish for a few years.

Another vote for Greg Lake - I believe in Father Christmas.
Bohemian Rhapsody kept it from the top spot back in the day.

I’m going to presume we can all agree Fairytale Of New York is the finest Christmas song ever written…

But other than that, what’s your favourite Christmas song? I love a bit of Stop The Cavalry, which interestingly wasn’t intended to be a Christmas song. Does that mean I’m cheating? Doesn’t matter it’s my question and I can answer as I see fit. Merry Christmas Hibbys

At the risk of repeating myself here's my shower-sung Fairytale Alternative.......

It was New Year’s Day babe
    Across at Tynie
An old man said to me, won't see another one
And then he sang a song
    The Glory Hibees one
    I turned my face away
And dreamed a win for him

    Then Jimmy scored the first
Came in at seven to nil
    Oh what a feeling
That year for me and him
    A happy New Year’s Day
    We love you Hibees
    Was there a better time
When all our dreams came true

    They were handsome
    Played pretty
    Kings of our City
    When the team finished playing
    We howled out for more
    The terrace was swinging,
    All the Hibbies were singing
    We pissed on the Jambos
    Then danced through the night

The boys of the E’nbra Hibees choir
    Were singing "Glory be"
And the bells were ringing out
    On New Year’s Day.

Personally I find Fairytale of New York an absolute dirge.
