    Wireless Security Camera

I'm hoping the good people of The Dug-Out can help me out.

We leave our dogs in the car if, for example, we go for dinner or visit someone who isn't keen on them being in their house.

The Mrs is asking if we can get a battery powered wireless camera that I can leave in the car and then view from my phone if the car is out of sight so I know they're ok but I'm wondering if that is even possible? The ones I have seen so far all require a wifi connection and are designed to be left in the house.

Dash cams all seem to be wired and I don't think you can view them live from your phone.

Anyone have any ideas or is this impossible?

I'm a bit useless when it comes to these things!

    Many thanks in advance.

Yeah you’d need some form of data connection to it. You could use an old phone or tablet with a SIM card (I used an app on an iPad that pairs to an app on my phone when we left our dog in the caravan when we were on holiday), but it’s likely that device would be very visible to passers by or potentially fall down in the car if the dogs are moving about

Edit: you could possibly get a portable WiFi hotspot kind of device, that uses mobile data, and connect it to something like a Blink camera (Amazon affiliated device), which can be battery operated. No idea how much you’d be looking to spears to achieve the goal though

I've often thought about something like this for another purpose but could work for what you want. You'd need a burner type phone for the WiFi and a way to keep the camera charging. For £24 it's maybe worth a try. Similar cameras are available 😉

Sounds like any solution is maybe more hassle than it’s worth.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply guys 👍

Ohh wow that might just be exactly what I’m looking for! I’ll read up on them.

Thank you so much for that 👍
