    Only doing his job, apparently!

    Las Vegas, not LA

To be fair, the guy is armed and threatening someone.

He shot him 5 times while on the ground. I don't know what shooting to kill is defined by but shooting someone 6 times seems like it would hit the mark.

To be fair, he was defending himself from a psycho former girlfriend who broke in and attacked him with said knife. And she is wearing a ski mask while he is semi naked.

And the break in was reported so the officer would have been aware of that when attending. I can't see the officer making detective

Agree with the thoughts above, however it must be hell being a cop in the States and I'm not surprised they are all coiled springs when every second person is armed.

He got it wrong but it’s far from clear cut when you remove the wonderful power of hindsight. It was very dark and the cop is using torchlight to see and he turns the corner to see what looks like a guy holding a knife to someone’s neck. Don’t blame him for taking a shot in that situation.

I had to watch the video several times to get a proper grasp on what was happening. The cop had seconds.

That’s the way I saw it but I hadn’t realised he then fired a few more times while he was on the ground.

The knife is highlighted, it's in the woman's hand above her head and the victim is holding her wrist.

Fair enough. I found that hard to see in the video and as I highlighted in my post, the cop obviously felt like he had seconds to make a decision based on what was in front of him and got it wrong. I can only presume he thought the male had the knife.

I fail to believe he shot the guy for the hell of it though but rather a genuine mistake. Most people are fortune enough not to face situations like this at work.

1 shot is a genuine mistake, another 5 is (excuse the pun) overkill.

Unless you are Sgt, now inspector Martyn Blake, who was charged with murder and stood trial. With some MPs still wanting him sacked and tarred and feathered.

Yes, firing once is possibly arguable in terms of appropriate force mistakenly applied, however to fire 5 times in a person lying on the floor is absolutely not

Wrong thread!! We are discussing the unlawful killing in Las vegas by a trigger happy metropolitan cop.

Just highlighting your post that 1 shot is not always considered a genuine mistake
