Hiking boots/ shoes

For years I’ve been a keen walker and I suppose since the covid pandemic I am doing more walking than ever on sandy beaches , trails with gravel / concrete paths , so footwear hasn’t been a problem and I’ve normally been ok in a good pair of trainers….

A couple I’ve been doing lately are like grassy paths and with the weather being quite damp and wet here trainers simply aren’t the answer….

Just wondering are there any other walking enthusiasts that have any tips on a good pair of hiking boots/shoes that aren’t to heavy and are water resistant or better again waterproof…..

As always any advice much appreciated…

I've worn Scarpa for years. I had one pair that lasted about a decade and hundreds if not thousands of miles and their replacements are still going strong. Not the lightest nor the cheapest boots in the world but built to last and the waterproofing is exceptional thanks to the one piece upper.

I'm sure you'll get a lot of different opinions and every boot has pros and cons.

Salamon X Ultra 4 Goretex range are fabulous boots. Warm and waterproof with great support around the ankles. Mid priced at around £150 upwards.

I'm a fan of Merrell, always get goretex. Scarpa are decent as well.

I've got different boots/trail trainers for different walks but for everyday rambling/tracks & trails I like the Adidas Terrex low and mid-ankle boots. They're very light, waterproof, have fantastic tread/grip and can be found relatively cheaply (£50-70) online. The negative is the sole wears out fast if only used on paved/tarmac areas but I'm also quite heavy on my heel.

I have Scarpa as well. I have the Scarpa Terra, which is lighter/cheaper than the Scarpa Ranger that I also looked at. The downside with the Terra over the Ranger is that it can't be re-soled but I'm a casual walker so the lightweight suited me more.

And with previous (non-scarpa) boots I tended to find the linings go before the soles.

I'd definitely buys the Scarpa Terra again. Perfect for my needs and I've had plenty use out of them.
