    Badenoch

Leader for now. Interesting to see how Reform responds.

Spoilt ballot papers: 655 (610 unmarked or void, and 45 rejected because they voted for more than one candidate)

No wonder the likes of Cleverly and Hunt don’t want to be in the shadow cabinet of either of them. Appreciate part of that will be to keep their powder dry for a future leadership bid but equally neither of the two of them strike me as being as bat **** as a lot of Tories seem to be these days which shows how far to the right they’ve lurched as Hunt was seen as pretty extreme back in the day.

Best choice for Labour, zero appeal outside the right wing hard core of the Nasty party and solid evidence that they are still all about their own internal battles.

She's the choice most likely to see them drift closer to a right wing alliance with the Nigel party and a bit more obscurity as an equal or minor partner.

    Horrendous person, really bigoted.

An aside she and Farage despise each other so there will be no pact. He's just came out and slammed her and says she is useless as won't leave the ECHR.

I don't think she makes the election

Could be a laugh as they disintegrate further but don't rule out what Farage is prepared to do to further the cause of the Nigel party, and get a few more quid along the way.

I think the biggest show for him is Reform they will gain Scottish and Welsh parliament seats and possibly a dozen seats the next GE. He'll not want a back bench seat when he is getting airtime as leader and the millions that come with it. Definitely wouldn't rule anything out though, he's a snake so anything is possible.

Yep, I can see that too.

There's only so much of the electorate available to the extreme right so it might be about how much they hide and how much they let slip. Farage is pretty opaque and doesn't seem to have much idea about how he would actually deliver on the rhetoric.

Badenoch may well have trouble making some of her bat **** crazy thinking and language palatable beyond the group that already supports her but her and wee Nige do seem to be competing in the same cesspit.

She’s bloody awful. I don’t buy any of the rosy forecasts off the back of this Labour budget and if she can hang on in position whilst we have a ropey next few years financially then this could spell pretty bad news.

Thing I don’t get is that I still see the UK as being a predominantly “small c conservative” country. Not that I like or love that, it’s just the way I see the population of our neighbours. Yet nobody seems to want to cater to that demographic - they’re now forced between fascist lunatics, crossing sides to Labour or going with the “wasted vote, will surely only ever come third” LibDems.

The centre ground just looks like a massive opportunity to me right now. I don’t get any of it.

A few of the right wing grifters who have spent recent years denying they are racist or pander to racists are getting quite the eye opening on social media right now. Badenoch has not gone down well with the racists. She's a bigot certainly but not a proper British bigot.

I have a real fear about how well Reform may do at the next election. This does also tie in with the Russian disinformation thread.

Dissapointed that The Tories didn't choose Cleverly. I think he would have been better equipped to fight in the middle ground which will be key to their recovery. Badenoch gives me the chills. Alongside Richard Tice , these two are the most dangerous policians since Enoch Powell.

I read Britannia Unchained when it came out. What Pritti Patel came up with was chillingly cruel.

I do agree, just a feeling rather than evidence based.

Facebook is riddled with Russian disinformation. There's literally hundreds of pages that have been lying dormant for years and only posting the odd picture of flowers or cars. Then around August/September they have all changed their names to things like Old Britain/Back then UK and similar and are now posting at a ferocious rate, all stuff that looks innocuous on the surface but soon it becomes a racist hotbed or anti Labour hatefest.

Facebook are complicit in my view, they let it stand and even after providing them hard evidence that the profiles are fake, they claim it's not going against their community standards.

I must confess to have fallen down the rabbit hole a bit. I've been on holiday but with nothing to do due to illness and ended up trawling social media looking for these links, but when you find them the Facebook algorithm throws hundreds at you and they've basically all the same.

Yeah but she's the first Black Woman to lead a UK political party... I'm not sure if that's supposed to make everything else OK.

Labour will be delighted with this as all they need to do now is copy the Democrats' "doesn't matter how right wing we are if the alternative is literal fascism" strategy for the next GE.

    Hmm… how’s that working out?

It amazes me that 40+ years of right wing capitalism has seen a huge power and wealth grab from the broader population in favour of the rich, and folk who are angry about that vote for even more extreme right wing politicians in protest.

    The world has gone mad.

PMQ’s is a waste of time. The PM never answers a question. That includes all previous PM’s not just the current one.

It does give a hint at how intelligent those who leads parties are. I can't stand Starmer and he has no personality but he has intelligence. Badenoch came across as thick as mince. Massive own goals reading from a script to challenge Starmer about reading from a script and saying the budget never said anything about defence when it very much did including detail. The cheerleading for Trump gave a hint to what we will see in the future too in terms of culture wars.

Personality is such a big part of politics these days so while it is a waste of time in terms in terms of answers the theatre matters to how citizens vote these days. However PMQs plays to social media and that is where elections are won these days

Huge difference in PMQs from before the election. Before, nearly all the animal noises were coming from Tory benches, and now nearly all the animal noises are coming from Labour benches. Truss was the only one I can remember trying to actually answer a question, and she only did it for her first week.
