I think the immensity of the college game is the thing that people this side of the Atlantic dont really comprehend. Lots of stadia over 80,000 capacity regularly filled, passion and noise that conpares very well to the NFL, and from this season huge numbers of players officials cheerleaders and marching bands zigzagging the country by plane literally hundreds of times for away games. (West coast teams now play East coast teams in the same division, a lot of the local rivals won’t play as often, all of which is an emissions disaster but this is America right? . I love that stat that Auburn, a medium sized college town in Alabama regularly gets attendances more than the town’s own population, because of the number of alma mater coming back to watch their college team rather than the nfl team nearer where they live.
It's not so much the case now but back in the Orange Bowl days the U were a far bigger draw than the Dolphins in Miami (nowadays after years of mediocrity neither are draws😅). Games v Notre Dame (latterly dubbed Convicts v Catholics of course) were the hottest ticket in town. Both teams crowds suffered after their respective moves to Joe Robbie Stadium. I was fortunate enough to attend a Hurricanes game in 2004 towards the tail end of their time at the Orange Bowl and it was amazing. Frank Gore was the star of the show and Jim Kelly was in attendance and got a huge ovation. The stadium was a wreck by that point but it felt like being somewhere important, it was steeped in both college and NFL history.

Talking of Miami I have my alarm set for tonight's game against the Bills. Feels like a pivotal game even this early and having our 2 starting running backs either out or very unlikely to play is far from ideal. Hopefully we can play on defence the way we did in the 2nd half v the Jags.

Pretty ugly one for the Dolphins last night.

You know when you get those Hibs games where everything that could possibly go wrong, goes wrong? It was a bit like that.

Tua was having an absolute nightmare of an evening then it managed to get even worse when he took another head injury. You have to think at this point that he must give calling it a day some serious consideration. This number of head injuries and concussions can only be storing up big problems for him later in life.

Another concussion for Tua? Nightmare. That has to be 5 now, or something?

  5. #12214
Well that was a ****ing disaster.

Tua was horrible pre injury (as seems the norm for him v Buffalo) and the concussion just compounds things. We are all in on him financially now but I don't really know where we go from here.

Our back up is Skylar Thompson and we have Tim Boyle on the practice squad. There had been persistent rumours all summer that we were keen to bring Ryan Tannehill back as a back up and right now I wouldn't be against that. He's tough as old boots (and he'll need to be behind that line) and he'd be a passable option as an experienced back up or even potentially a starter.

Just a dismal night all round on both sides of the ball.

The guys a good QB, I'm not sure why anyone would doubt him. Sometimes a move is what someone needs.

The Packers rode their luck a bit last night but in reality should have been out of sight by HT. a few more weeks until Love returns. If we can get at least one more win in that time the season could still be a good one.

I’d have him somewhere around 20th if you were ranking QBs, so yeah based on his career so far i find his start surprising. Same with Darnold at the Vikings, thanks for that Sam, always nice to see the whiners get beat.

Packers 2-1 without Love. Malik has been really good as a stand in and MLF deserves a lot of credit.

That's a shame, I think the Eagles look good though.

Yeah, even if Love takes over from next week he's improved his reputation and I have no issues keeping the guy around.

Yeah that's the first time I've seen our defence actually look like it could stop a half competent offence for a while.

If that continues and Hurts can stop turning the ball over we might actually be able to do something in the playoffs this year.

I think youre a weird defense; up front fearsome and always going to generate chaos, the back end i dont really trust the dbs to cover receivers properly. Gardner Johnson looks like a weakness. Not sure Slay still has it either.

Yeah it was like that last year as well, we couldn’t stop a decent passing attack. We seem to have gone down the bend but don’t break route this year and concentrated on making sure our red zone defence is good, limiting teams to field goals where we can, but that relies again on hurts not turning the ball over and us scoring TDs to stay ahead of the game. We’ll have to wait and see how it goes against a proper elite offense…

Vikings looking very much like theyre for real.
Jordan Love looking very much like he’s not moving well on that knee. 0-21 2nd Q.

Buccs taking the Eagles down at this point. Mayfield and Darnold are certainly flying the flag for the unfashionable quarterbacks.

GB have done their best to just hand the game to them. So poor on both sides of the ball. I get they're good but today is as much an implosion for GB than anything else.

I always thought Darnold had the attributes to be a good quarterback (admittedly I've been saying the same about Daniel Jones for about 8 seasons now). He was drafted by a terrible Jets team that has been a QBs graveyard for years then went on to one of the worst NFL teams in recent times. who increasingly look like being another graveyard for QBs, the aforementioned Mayfield being another victim of that franchise.

Who knows we might be talking about Zach Wilson and Bryce Young as MVP candidates this time next year......

Zach Wilson Poor guy. Him and Young, youve referenced two guys who we were being told were sure to transfer to moving to the pros, now theyre just memes. The Jets Hard Knocks a season ago was fascinating viewing as to how Wilson just collapsed and lost his teammates confidence. Zach Wilson having a redemption arc somewhere would be great viewing.

saw Packers were getting hammered at vikings so watched the Jets game instead, what a load of penalties they gave away, looked like they would win it on their last drive but again mucked up FT Jets 9 Broncos 10

turns out Packers were very unlucky, winning the last Q 22-3 but still lost out 31-29

Seeing Andrew Van Ginkel in Vikings purple is the incompetence of the Miami Dolphins in a picture.

Guy made plays every time he was on the field and we let him walk away. He's a superb football player, leaves it all on the field every game and his team mates and fans love him.

Interesting Robert Salah has a Lebanon flag on his jacket. You see players with flag decals on their helmet, never seen a coach doing so.

Embarrassing from the Jets really. Penalties, blown assignments, Rodgers looks like an old man. Seems to be over as a contest before halftime.

  30. #12239
It's not been much of a spectacle really.

Some really good defensive from both teams but neither offence has really sparked. Could still spring to life in the 4th quarter with it being anyone's game at this point.

Rodgers stats arent good but hes played really well since the first quarter, has been let down by his receivers and hes up against a young fast defense. Scrappy penalty ridden game.
