Hibs have had Alan Rough, Andy Goram and Jim Leighton on their books and won nothing, while the keepers in our three most recent trophy wins were John Burridge, Andy McNeil and Conrad Logan. Keepers just need to be competent and Pickford's more than capable.

All incredible players. Not one can really be compared to Messi overall, though.
Interesting debate, so you won't be surprised that on this occasion I disagree with you.

    Totally fair.

Genuinely asking. In which way do any of these guys better Messi?

Pickford has literally never let England down. Saved a penalty in every shootout he's played in for them too. And an excellent keeper for Everton. Plenty worse than him won a lot of silverware.

Anyone watch Jack Butland for The Rangers versus Ajax

    Comedy gold

Almost as funny as Hearts’ triumphant march along the maroon mile led by pipe bands to celebrate their 150th only to get pumped by Leyton Orient 1-2 at Tiny

I'm sure I watched a video breaking down the stats behind messi and came away from it thinking if we go by stats and only stats, he's probably the best we will ever see.

A genuine anomaly on every single level

Didn't know that score. Brought a smile to my face.

He's also quite charismatic in a squad of players that - whilst immensely talented - can appear at times to be a bit bland.

Pickford's definitely not a problem for them - working out what they do down their left side, how they keep Bellingham's ego in check and how they balance playing their talented players and keeping those who are on the bench happy most definitely are.

Right back is also just a huge mess as well. Southgate didn't pick white, rate Trent and James is crocked. Walker was a mess this Euros.

Suppose if it's judged on World Cups, Pele has a far better record and performed better in them all round. Until Argentina won the last World Cup Messi hadn't always been at his best IMO. That grates on me, as I regard Messi as a truly brilliant player, but for me didn't perform as well in World Cups as Pele or Maradonna. Nowadays the Champions League is regarded as important as the World Cup IMO, but the European Cup before it, while still a hugely important tournament, doesn't seem to have the same kudos, and that's possibly down to money. So because we have access to more football nowadays, often our opinion of greatness is coloured by more recent teams and performers. It's just my opinion, and obviously you have a different one, but I should underline that I still regard Messi as one of the greatest footballers of all time

    All these clowns defending Pickford

Take your John Bull glasses off and do the one simple thing - look at the goals he conceded

Case in point France's opener in Qatar

Pickford loses the same goal A LOT

Exhibit B - the exact same goal v Denmark in Euro 2024

You win nothing with Bang Average goalies

He's at Everton for a reason. They are skint yet not one single big clubs wants to take him.

Was there a reason why the tarts played Leyton Orient in their 150th celebrations? I would have thought that Barca, Real Madrid, Man U, Liverpool or possibly a world select including Messi, Ronaldo etc would have been invited to show reverence to the self proclaimed "famous"

12 ‘technical observers’ picked Walker in the team of the tournament.

Something to do with both clubs winning the war back in the day.

Absolutely. He's comfortably the best English keeper available, recently broke Peter Shilton's record for clean sheets at international tournaments and has actually kept a clean sheet in almost half his England appearances.

I think Pope is probably a better keeper in terms of his actual goalkeeping but Pickford is a presence and a character on the pitch, and for goalkeepers that matters massively.

Even if Pope was fit I still think Southgate would have played Pickford.

Apparently they were the first 2 clubs whose players signed up en masse for the war effort.

I'd have pickford in my team, very good keeper. My criticism of him was how many times he hoofed the ball long. But I suppose that was the agreed tactics

Much as I can't stand the guy, pretty sure they had one of the best, if not the best, clean sheet record in the league last season.

It’s not really is it you don’t luck your way to semi finals and finals over a long period of time.Given the number of times they have marginally lost out on penalties their record should be better than it is. Matter of time before they start winning tournaments. Natural progression imo
Your last couple of sentences there... heard that a few times before over the decades. England have improved beyond recognition from a decade ago for sure but that's now 4 tournaments in a row that this talented young team have had a very real chance of winning, and they've found a way of not winning any of them. Absolutely no guarantee they're going to win anything.

Isn’t that clown Simon Ferry their assistant? Couldn’t happen to a better person.

Only 3 of the team for the 2018 World Cup semi-final started the game on Sunday. They've been steadily evolving and could arguably get even stronger.
