The whole ethos was that he and Nick needed players who could play their system. The snag being that on our budget, we can't attract those type of footballers.

Hiring coaching teams wedded to a system isn't for a non-OF SPL side. You need to build your tactics around the players you have in the building.
I think the players could play the system, as is evidenced by Sergio's clips. They weren't asking professional players to do much more than pass and move, which are basics at the level these guys operate at.

The system, and their refusal to recognise that it was fundamentally unsuited to the majority of teams we come up against, was by far the biggest issue.

If anything the team appeared over coached and were very easy for opposition managers to set up against.
