I thought Spain were quite good today and thoroughly deserved to win, but that has to be one of the worst Italian teams I've seen. Williams wasn't nearly as effective in the previous game even though Spain won 3-0 in that one. But Italy were woeful, and not just because Spain were good either. What about that free kick they had well inside the Spanish half and they didn't seem to know what they were doing, it was as if they hadn't even played together, and ended up passing it back to the goalie, who was the only decent player out of the lot of them. Quite hard to say how good Spain are at the moment but they've certainly not done anything wrong so far, and have already qualified for the next round, so we'll see how they get on there. Remember they put 7 goals past somebody in the last WC (might have been Costa Rica) and still went out in the next round. And Rodri can get to **** after his comments about Scotland but apart from that he's a great player.

, that is the most laughable thing I've ever read.

    Kane couldn't lace his boots.
    Yep.

Only Haaland has scored more league goals in a season

No other player has scored 30+ in 3 different seasons. Shearer did it 3 years on the bounce.

    Klinsman Henri Bergkamp RVN Ageuro.

But of course football existed before 1992 as well Lots of better strikers than Shearer, id imagine he’s floating about between 5th and 10th. Hes only just crept into the top 3 Newcastle strikers

    Cantona?
    Drogba?
    Rooney at his peak?

Yes, Drogba is of course a great, obvious shout. I also have a memory of a lot of Shearersgoals coming from penalties, no idea of stats and if this is borne out.

Italy had their chances and the goal was a bounce off a knee. They're not finished. Not by a long chalk.

Imagine taking Wharton, Mainoo, Gallagher and Palmer to the Euros then playing TAA in midfield who doesn’t even play there for his club, I just can’t get get my head around that one. Southgate just strikes me as a very average manager who should be doing more with that set of players.

I think there was around about 50 penalties Shearer scored in the premier though the reason for that was probably because he had a powerful shot that had accuracy like some of these ....

Kane has scored more goals per game than Shearer in a far more competitive era. He's also scored more goals both on a per game basis and total goals at international level.

    Henry
    Drogba
    Aguero
    Haaland
    Kane
    Suarez

All 6 better forwards than Shearer IMO.

He did score a lot of penalties but interestingly he's also missed more penalties than any player in EPL history. His overall conversion rate for penalties was 83%. Compare that to Henry for example who converted 92% of his penalties.

He was a fantastic player though no doubt, I just don't rate him as highly as some other do (including himself).

"kane couldn't lace shearers boots" is without doubt one of the dumbest things I've ever read. No one who actually watches Kane could believe that.

Shearer was a great player. Kane is probably slightly better.

Trent had a decent game. He's much better at opening the game up than Mainoo, Wharton and Gallagher. Palmer plays a totally different position.

His mistake is trying to force Foden into the side, totally out of position. He offers nothing on the left and has to drift in field. England then have no one on the left because Trippier isn't a left back and isn't overlapping. Gordon and Shaw in the team would have them looking significantly better.

Think Trent looks out of position personally. Think he should play either Mainoo or Wharton. Different imo playing right back then moving to centre mid though of course he rotates into that position at his club. Agree about Foden and the left back position

England have a favourable path to the quarters at least.

Win their group they'll play a 3rd place from groups D, E or F. So likey Poland, Ukraine or Czechia

After that they'll play the winner of Swiss vs Italy(possibly Croatia)

A semi final showdown with France SHOULD take care of them, but we can only dream here of reaching that phase of a major tournament so hardly a failure

If the draw turns out they play Italy in the quarters that's a very difficult game (for both teams). Having seen both teams I'd not say England should be overly confident of winning that game.

Ah the old favourable draw/path line is out already just in case………so so predictable on here 😂😂😂

I think England will only improve as the tournament goes on. They won't be far away.

They won their qualifying group, been to semis & finals recently.

They are a seeded side and have earned a more favourable draw.

Im not sure the favourable path thing works this year, theres been too many strong performances from supposedly small nations to feel confident about what an ‘easy’ game is. Spain France Germany look the strongest but behind those 3 i think most of the rest of the likely last 16 will be able to beat each other on their day.

They get such easy draws when you think about it, amazing that the likes of Denmark and Greece have won this while they have not.
With the players they have they should skoosh this Euro tournament.

    Joe Baker and Neil Martin,
over 100 goals both sides of the border.

The English had a couple of guys named Greaves and Clough.
    Shearer couldnie lace their boots.

They do not have better players than France, so I'm not sure they should skoosh anything. Should be doing better, though.

Quite the turnaround here. Slovakia had played three halfs of faultless football this tournament, Ukraine finaly turn up and score two goals. I think this group could throw up a dark horse, Romania looked very impressive too.
