I’m well aware of how budgets work.

You haven’t explained where the source of the money to be separated into specific budgets, which is how you spend the money you have, has come from.
The Gordons and other share issues. Mens first team aren’t self sustaining so we’re always tapping cash from there.

Which is kind of the wrong answer. That’s money that could be spent on the men’s team.

To be self funding it needs money that is completely sourced purely from and for the activities of the women’s team.

If the Gordon want to put money in for the women’s team it’s not related to the men’s team. I’m struggling to get what your point t is other than you don’t want women to be part of the club.

Surely you can see that there's a direct pathway from those two teams that can feed into the men's first team.
Surely you agree that "they contribute little to the men's first team"?

What benefit have we had from Mackay, Tait, Delferriere, Henderson, McLelland, Kenneh etc?

Last time I looked we're Hibernian Football Club, not Hibernian Men's Football Club.

    Just saying.

    The possibility exists though.

Women's football isn't about the bottom line right now and whilst I am critical of the current custodians of the club in other areas the fact they seem to grasp this is laudable and encouraging.

You have to consider that we are realistically only in the 2nd generation of women's football as a serious spectator and participation sport. The game was de facto banned in several countries, Scotland included, until fairly recently. There is a clear direction of travel worldwide and that is upwards; Scotland can either get on board with that or much like the men's game get left behind. Given the tendency of Scottish football fans towards the small c conservative I feel there is an inevitability about it being the latter.

It's not about the women's game somehow supplanting the men's team but rather one that compliments it as part of a holistic one club approach. The club aggressively marketed the men's team towards women in the early 00s and you only have to look around you at Easter Road these days to see the success of that. There are a myriad of reasons why our crowds are up significantly on the 80s and 90s but at least part of the reason is the higher percentage of women now attending games.

The aggressive marketing of the women's game has had similar success elsewhere. England reached the final of the Euros in 2009 and the semi final that year attracted 2000 fans, the final 15K. Contrast that to 2022 in England. 70K at Old Trafford for the opening game, 30K at both the quarter and semi finals and close to 90K at the final. That has started to filter down the club game as well; 5 years ago Man Utd women attacted an average crowd of 2000, the last 2 seasons it has been just over 10K. A 500% increase in half a decade. Man City are averaging 7K up from just over 1K 6 years ago. I'm aware those average are skewed by massive crowds for derbies played at Old Trafford and the Etihad but why shouldn't they count? It's games that people made the choice and effort to go out and attend.

The transfer feeds paid in the women's game is on the same trajectory. From 2002 to 2020 the increase in the record fee was £50K. In the 4 years since 2000 that record has been broken year on year and increased by 71% in only 18 months. The decade of the first million pound women's player is already here, it's a matter of time now.

Add in the fact that the standard of the game has improved dramatically in the last decade, anyone arguing otherwise is seeing what they want to see. Leaving tired comparisons with the men's game aside and comparing it solely against the women's game from 10 years ago and it's an inarguable fact. It's that marketing and investment that is causation for that increase in standard.

All of that comes together to make the game more attractive to sponsors, more attractive to TV companies and more attractive to the paying public. Of course it's not directly comparable to the men's game but it only seems to be critics who want to make that the case. It's shouldn't be comparable though because for all the increases in investment the money spent on players, on infrastructure, on marketing and so on is a fraction of what is spent on the men's game.

The bottom line right now is only part of it. If I was to say that the Hibs boys academy was a total waste of time and money because in the last 10 years we have had Josh Campbell and Ryan Porteous to show for millions of pounds spent on it, directly and indirectly, then I'd be rightly shouted down and called short sighted. The women's game is (very) broadly the same, it's not about a return on a pretty minuscule investment right now, it's about being able to think about 10-20 years in the future and where we will be if the growth of the game globally continues at the same rate.

There’s not separate bank accounts or separate accounts. Gordon’s aren’t putting the money in . Hibs fans are and money going into the men’s team which is Hibernian football club . Without a doubt people think mens fitba

The Gordon’s have been throwing money at it and they’ve decided they want to fund a women’s team. That’s up to them.

50 number is nonsense so you clearly don't go to the games.

Its another way to get them hooked. Not all young girls want to go with Dad to watch men play football. But plenty enjoy the women games. Its a starting point.

I say not all as my daughter was watching Men's football from 5 and didnt see a girls game till 7. Wasn't hard to get her hooked as she has been playing the game since 5. I have a neighbour who takes his daughter to all the womens games, but she doesnt like the mens games yet. That will come. So in short YES it could benefit attendance at Mens games.
    I
Walked along marionville and stoped and counted people
In the stand at meadowbank for Sunday preseason friendly. Less than
    50.

I go on YouTube and sometimes less than 100 viewers . Hibs u15s would
Wipe the floor with womens team
    .

The girls academy is a complete shambles which doesn’t help. Hibs girls train all over Edinburgh there is no connection to the club. Local clubs run by volunteers are far more organised.

Hate to say it but Hearts have a proper set up with experienced coaches and scouts at local games. It is starting to pay off as they have numerous girls in the first team and Scotland Youth set up. This weekends results tell the story.

    RESULTS - Sun 9 Jun 2024

    18s NextGen Performance League - Cat 1
    Hibernian 2-7 Hearts

    16s NextGen Performance League - Cat 1
    Hearts 5-1 Hibernian

    14s NextGen Performance League - Cat 1
    Hearts 7-0 Hibernian

They don’t anymore - HTC and Meadowbank only.

No denying those results though - the club have been moving promising players up age groups early however this effectively weakens 2 teams. No doubt Hearts treat it more seriously at the minute though.

The 18s aren’t great and it’s unlikely any will make the first team - they were under the community wing for years and the head of the girls academy at the time neglected the competitive side in favour of the “football for everyone” approach - the club are now feeling the effect of that neglect.

That 14’s result from the weekend is a bit of an outlier, that age group have some very decent players and have done well this season. A couple have moved up early to the 16’s, therefore weakening the younger team.

You are just being daft now, my season ticket up until recently went towards helping the football team have success, the mens team.

Now we have a womans team, not a problem as some would like you to think, but they do recieve money from the pot that used to be just for the men.

I just feel they should fund their own team, it's that simple.

So it’s not Hibernian Football Club, it’s Hibernian Mens Football Club? I assume you’d be happy for all the female fans to stop paying for a season ticket to watch the men’s team and pay that money into the women’s team then?

They’d be funding ‘their own team’ (very inclusive language btw), and the men’s team would suffer, but no money from the men’s team would be paying towards the women

Does it though? What does the social media output do to support the men’s team, that directly improves things on the park? What about the cleaners?

I’m making an extreme point because for some, there seems to be an issue with any funding supporting the womens team

When you say a different budget where does that money come from?
A lot of funding from Leslie Robb. Who has just pumped more money into the club. I think he should have more say on where they money goes rather than people on a message board.

Personally I think the standing section is a massive waste of money - but its up to the club to decide how they spend funds.

I’m not saying I think they will, I have no doubts that they wouldn’t.

I was making a point to the previous poster that by their logic, they’d be happy if female fans only put money into the female team, since that’s ’their own team’, and then no money would be spent (allegedly) from the men’s team budget on the women’s team. The men’s team would be worse off, but as long as they’re not funding the women’s team, the poster would be happy that his season ticket money is only funding the men’s team.

As to your other point, you have an extremely small sample size of women who think women’s football is poor. Are you suggesting we should just shut down women’s football?

TBH I think the club is making an absolute pigs tits of woman's football. They could start with making it someones job rather than just a side hustle for the Operations Manager. (or before that weirdly the Finance Manager). The decision making on signings and contracts leaves a lot to be desired and decisions made on where to play games has been equally baffling. Much of the issues we seem to have with the mens team seem to be mirrored in the way we run the womens section from top to bottom. BUT again if you pay very little you get very little back.

    I
Walked along marionville and stoped and counted people
In the stand at meadowbank for Sunday preseason friendly. Less than
    50.

I go on YouTube and sometimes less than 100 viewers . Hibs u15s would
Wipe the floor with womens team
    .
Are you ok. Did you really do that? Counted people at a pre season friendly?

How do you count the fans from YouTube when the camera is in with the fans?

And then you come out with the classic the boys would beat the women....so what. Its not news that males are stronger than females. Your female relatives must love these lovely chats you have with them. Inspiring.

Seems very odd to go out of your way to dislike something so much that doesnt affect you in any way.

If they wanted to do that, it would be fine by me, is that happening?

Sill sausage. It tells you on YouTube how many people are viewing.

I suggest you don’t reference what chats have or don’t have. We certainly don’t discuss women’s fitba.

Took litterly no time at all to see how poor the crowd was . And it’s a waste of time. Put it back under the community banner. Let the women have fun. Don’t pretend it’s a viable profession

    Dearie me.
If it's viable elsewhere it can be viable here, so no-one's pretending anything.
There will be mis-steps & there will be a period of time when the figures don't add up.
To dismiss women's football ('Let the women have fun.' ) like this is short sighted and just a bit sad.
