I've played it 4 times, though not since 1989. I've a cine film of my first ever tee shot - it went a long way straight, but about 5 foot off the deck. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
When I viewed the film I realised I was so petrified of hacking up the tee I went up on my toes and hit the ball half way up. And yes, I dumped my second in the burn!

Covered a few holes at Rutherglen Top Golf
last weekend. Great fun but it reminded me why I love fishing and hate golf.

The carrick really is a very good track. Some terrific holes and some real nice scenery. The condition is its downfall. Really struggling in the wet conditions. It really could do with a good few Bob spent on drainage and conditioning. Real shame.

Carrick is a great layout but their drainage issues are never ending.

Dumbarnie yesterday. Really is a very good layout. Greens all recovered (bar maybe 8th which is below the standard of the rest IMO) I really like it.
Turnberry Robert the Bruce course tomorrow.

I tell you what. He may be a big orange face ******** but he certainly knows how to spend money. What a place he has turned Turnberry into. First class experience and that was on the wee course.
Two blobs on the first 4 holes then the game decided to turn up. A respectable 34 stableford points. I seemed to be scoring 3 pts or no points.

Elie yesterday, just fantastic. 13th one of my favourite holes in all of golf.

Really hoping Boab gets it done tonight. I always think he’s a wee bit fragile tho but he’s got the lead. If he doesn’t and plays poorly in the process it could set him back years.

Nerves are torn to shreds. Brilliant for not just him but his old boy too. He’s just a grass cutter you know.

I think not playing this week is a mistake particularly if he’s heading back to Oban. The next three weeks over is the US Open bookended by two limited field signature events. Loads of earning potential but again more importantly enhanced fed ex and world ranking points. He could take a week or two off after that over here before the Scottish Open and Open. It also won’t do his homesickness much good either. Needs to tough it out.
Having said all that only he will know what his priorities are.

I have tickets the final day of the Scottish Open at the Renaissance club. Does anyone have any tips for attending? I have never been to a golf event before. I went with the ticket plus option for car parking and bar access.

I have been to the open at Muirfield down there too. Don’t drink so can’t comment in the bar etc.
Parking was well organised going in but a complete shambles on leaving as all the oarking attendants/stewards had long gone and it was a free for all with literally hundreds of cars trying to leave one small exit with no real roads to speak of just a huge field. It was literally hours trying to get out.
I went and spent quite a bit of time at the practice range and saw more golf shots there than anywhere.
Food was pricey.
enjoy.

McIlroy throws away the US Open by missing two 3 footers on 16 and 18. After holing some great putts earlier his bottle crashed and he folded.

Yep another choke. He's gonna struggle to get over that one.

However, he had a 2 foot putt for par and blew it. Same on 16.
It's mental, nothing else now. He won't win another because he can't get out his own head.
I left St Andrews Absolutely gutted but that was worse. I don't know how he recovers.
