i'd love to hear Brother Beaton explain just why he didn't see one celtic player push the handball dude forward onto the ball and then give that as a penalty, it's quite surreal

They need to jettison Lawwell Snr as well if they want to move forward, he seems to prioritize the old firm brand over success in Europe which for the life of me I don't understand.
They've built their warchest by being just ambitious enough to get into the champs league and collect the participation cheque. It's pretty smart on a business level. But for anyone manager wanting to progress in the champs league, which is a lottery for all but the biggest teams, it's no use. Ange saw the way the wind was blowing and jumped off the ship.

Interesting post-match comments from Rodgers on Sky - clearly calls out the officiating as the reason for the defeat and name-checks John Beaton twice!

I’d personally like to see Monty and the Club do this when we feel aggrieved - make no mistake, Rodgers knew what he was doing and this will be the narrative over the next few days.
In the same interview he also said of the penalty "we got one against Motherwell last week"???
Just goes to show, its never their fault it someone else every time!!!

Agree thought it was a penalty under the present poor rules. Outside the body silhouette played the ball. Sending off is kind of similar to the Vassell one at ER which think was Beaton also. Tend to think the level of conduct should come into it. Little or no power so imo red is ridiculously harsh. Didn't think the Celtic pen was one either.
What absolute nonsense. Outside silhouette my arse!

The player was pushed into the ball and didn’t even know were the ball was. Completely accidental and even a blind Donkey could see that!

It was a shockingly bad decision and it shows that these refs are absolutely ****ing clueless about football

I think the point is that under the current laws as Jim points out, it is a penalty.

It`s the rules that need to be changed as that wasn't deliberate hand ball like it used to be in the olden days!

It was never a penalty, not in past rules and not in current rules. The player was pushed in the air and as he was falling the ball came down on his arm when he was desperately trying to regain his balance.

If you think about it, it’s actually a penalty for Rangers given by Beaton. The sending off was a yellow card only and Celtics penalty was at least worth debate but should not have been given either.

    What a strike from Rashford.

Utd need to take something from this game, good start so far, but it’s citeh and it could end up 4-1.

Does Onana normally pass the ball this well? Hes like Pirlo in a keepers body

Odd game so far. All City but United look dangerous every time they get into attacking positions. City look really shaky at the back.

That should really have been 2.

The much maligned Onana has been pretty outstanding today so far. Two big saves and dominating every cross ball.

My daughter goes to watch games in London a fair bit; Chelsea Real madrid the other week got a huge crowd as well. Erin Cuthbert there now.

Quick question on today and midweek.

Why do the gimps get the VAR box in the wheatfield and not the main stand like everyone else?

Rodgers was basically dog whistling that to the Celtic support. Massive deflection from a really poor result. And if anyone wants to consider McGregor influence on Celtic then today was a great example of his importance. Superb player that dictates games quietly and without fuss.
