England actually deserved to win that. Credit to Borthwick, who's proved a lot of critics wrong.

that was the 2nd time i watched England this WC, the first was v Argentina in their first game and even though they won that 27-10 every single point was from a kick, that haul included 3 drop kicks, i very seldom see one drop kick nowayears so to see three in just one game was quite surreal, their intention was to beat Argentina by kicking everything and i honestly can't remember if they got anywhere near scoring a try? even Argentina were adventurous enough to score a Try, i've obviously no idea if they played more attacking the rest of their group stage games and their QF game but they bore me to tears. they get credit for keeping the scoreline very tight tonight but that's it.

As far as rugby content is involved. tonight's game was one of the poorest we've seen in this world Cup. England's spoiling tactics nearly paid off so all credit to their coaches for a game plan which was devised to frustrate the Springboks - it nearly succeeded but didn't quite. Shame really.

It was quite scrappy due to the conditions mainly but the intensity of rugby at this level is stirring to behold. I have to admit I enjoy it more than watching footballers passing it back and across and feigning injury all the time.

I agree. The raw passion and commitment to their respective Nations has been a feature of this World Cup.

Wake up man its about winning. Didnt see any of Scotlands games but from your post I take it you played "rugby"? And how far did that get you?

England are rotten. A semi final that is nothing more than the result of a sham of a draw.

The poster is right. They might find ways to scrape wins but it's rotten to watch.

End result for both England and Scotland. Shows how bad England have become that they're trotting a 1 point defeat out as a moral victory.

So glad that on a day of crap results this one landed right. If England ever decide to play rugby again they will be a top side. While they continue with that strategy of kick, kick again and then kick some more they will keep losing to the very best sides. That is the one difficult match they have had in the tournament and they lost. They also struggled in the group and also against Fiji in the quarters. They have some unbelievably talented players but thankfully for the rest of us that skill is being coached out of them.

Tortuous watch even accounting for the weather. So many cracking players in their team as well.

I can't get so enthused about club rugby. I always feel they don't tackle with quite the same commitment.

I don't think it's commitment, there is a smaller pool of players in the sport compared to football, so the jump to international standard is huge

As an Edinburgh ST holder, I find this an odd take...
It's hard to stitch my own back with these shaky hands

back to club rugby for now :)

    Dragons 17 Edinburgh 22
Glasgow 43 Leinster 25, albeit a rather weakened Leinster side, my viewing timing as usual was impeccable by tuning in just in time to see the players shaking hands at the end

I'll most likely miss the WC final as I'm at the Edinburgh v Lions game - first home game of the season, so wasn't missing it. They are showing it in the Clubhouse after the Edinburgh game, but I don't think the Mrs would take too kindly to me leaving around 3pm to get to Edinburgh for the game, and not getting back home til near midnight while she chases our two around the entire day

    73 mins Argentina 23 England 26

stadium playing if you wanna be my lover by the spice girls, ffs

75 mins penalty Argentina, go for it never mind ET...aww taking the penalty from out wide and he's made an erse of it, they've blown a great chance his team mates on the bench look gutted

lots of regrets for Argentina players, whoever made that decision not to be that bit braver and going for touch ultimately cost his side

And Scotland dont even get to the knock out. Knock it all you want England finished 3rd .. draw blah blah blah but France, Scotland, Wales and Ireland failed. England with their most disappointing World Cup team for years finished 3rd. Get over it.
