Ireland just miles ahead on strength and depth, while it's a decent Scotland team we are just no match.

Men v boys tonight, Scotland losing possession all too easily on their lineouts and the inability to score when having lots of possession in Ireland's 22, Ireland seem able to score whenever they open up and attack. I've switched off and watching a film now.

Yep, we're regarded as a strong team but they're on a different planet.

When I started watching international rugby the Ireland game was always one you were quite confident of Scotland winning. What's at the heart of their rise to best in the world?

I've really no idea but the Irish seem to be a tad overconfident so hopefully it will be a case of pride before the almighty fall.
It's not the Irish that have the overconfidence issue, a few of the Scottish players would want to have a good look at themselves in terms of some of their smack talk during the week compared to their efforts tonight. Embarrassing stuff.

Money. Invested an incredible amount if cash in supporting rugby. I think I read that they spend more than England do on rugby per head of population. That and the folk who promote the game in Ireland can see past the public schools and usual clubs to invest that money in. Club rugby in Scotland is ****ed.

They adapted better to rugby going pro. Strong provinces, conveyor belt of development (mainly from private schools) and decent coaching at all age grades. They made the decision around 6 years ago to accelerate all this and here’s the result.

Sexton hasn't lost to a Scottish team playing for club or country for 12 years. You can see why.

Darcy Graham off. Most overrated player in Scottish rugby, can't see an overlap, can't take a high ball, just runs fast. Useless at this level.

He was useless against South Africa and he was useless again tonight. Probably fine in a URC game against the Dragons or whoever.

Job done ! Easier than I thought it would be though suppose that's what happens when you have players of Sexton's quality in your team

2nd all time Scottish try scorer... "just runs fast" what a post... 😂

He was poor tonight, I'll give you that, but so was most other aspects of the team.

Scotland were always up against it with the group they were in. Face it we're not in the top bracket.

Our ranking is exactly where we are and what we are. Better than most teams, can complete with any team on our day but ultimately not as good as the top 4 teams in the world.

Ireland All Blacks will be a colossal game. Scotland nowhere near these elite teams either physically but particularly defensively. Looked way too easy to score against though fair to say TMO seem to have a snooze when Scotland playing first try is a clear block. The decision when the Irish full back was clearly in touch was bizarre though the difference in class was for all to see

He was, though hard for him or Duhan to do anything when they never saw the ball, given that Tuipualotu never once passed it, choosing to run into the nearest Irish player instead.

Ireland won deservedly, but Scotland didn’t play anywhere near potential for me, and the refereeing left some to be desired as well

    New Zealand v Ireland

    South Africa v France

kin ridiculous two of those sides will be out after a WC QF

meanwhile Bill Beaumont's England get a draw through to the SF before they actually face a very hard task,Wales much of the same, imo

The draw has been the negative aspect of the tournament.
Someone explain please why it was set in stone so long ago.

Well the only answer from that article seems to be in the comments section, viz that the system has been like this for 30 years so why moan now?

Teams seem to be making questionable selections for the weekend. I am willing to bet de Klerk and Pollard come on sooner rather than later for the Boks.
