    Hibs TV Quality this season

Don't know what's happened to Hibs TV in the last couple of months. Good fast Internet connection 100mbps+ and every match I watch I get constant buffering and the stream dropping out.
When it is working the sound quality is poor and picture quality is average at best. I'm beginning to think it's lacking investment, today for example the whole match was on one camera, no close ups and the camera looked like it was being operated by one of the ball boys. Poor show Hibs, if this is the best were going to get I will be cancelling my subscription.

Hibs TV used to be hosted by Verizon. Is this still the case?

I think so, I'm sure it's their screen that comes up every time the stream drops out every 15 mins during a match

It's piss poor. Always crashing at vital times like before a goal.
I don't know why I bother with it.
Anyway, I'm just glad the team won.

It could be camera issues, issues with the data reaching the Verizon servers or issues with the servers sending the data to the viewers. Verizon is a US company and i'm not sure if they have established servers in the UK or if the data has to be sent all the way to servers in the US before being beamed to whatever locations viewers happen to be when accessing Hibs TV. May be time for Hibs to switch server providers if the issues aren't on their own end.

If it crashes now and again, just hit the back button on yir remote and click back on Hibs tv, works for me.

Ive had it for 4 seasons now and it's always been a bit dodgy from time to time but the quality seems to have dropped off a cliff in the last few months. I've tried it on my phone, tablet and desktop and on my kids broadband so pretty sure the problems are at Hibs end. So frustrating when your trying to watch the match

I agree. The picture quality in particular isn't very good. This is mainly because the streaming partner the Club uses, Stream Digital only offers a maximum resolution of 720p for match feeds, which in 2023 isn't good enough - 1080p should be a minimum. The Club has to move with the times and start to look at alternate streaming companies who can offer a better and more proactive service.

Was particularly bad today . Non stop buffering and interruptions . Last season I found it was usually fine for first 70 minutes then problems would start in last 20 minutes . Missed a lot of late goals .

My main issue isn't really the quality or the occasional drop out (none today), it's the amount of messing about with a remote trying to move the cursor around, and the number of times you have to navigate more pages after clicking 'Watch Now', especially when the cursor moves like an express train if I keep the direction button pressed for more than a second, and it skites past the box I'm trying to click

Where do you live? Is your local supplier choking your bandwidth for foreign sites?

I had this problem about 8 years ago when I'd run a speedtest and it'd be grand but, when I checked deeper, data rates for foreign websites were much slower than domestic ones.

I haven't had problems like this since then, though there were many problems at the Hibs TV end for the St Mirren game.

I'm based in the US just outside Chicago so don't have to use a VPN for hibs TV but I do use a VPN to access uk stuff Iplayer etc with no problems, pretty sure it's Hibs TV 📺🤔

Today was absolutely fantastic for me today - HD quality, no blackouts, nothing weird. I sh*t you not!! Best I've seen on Hibs TV, and I've been using it for several years.

The other games this season have been poor. Mostly because of blackouts.

It's weird. It may be that there's some bottleneck in the system that they use but it never affects me. Maybe it's worse for North America.

I wonder if the servers are being overloaded as some people are getting good streams and others terrible streams. Up until a few months ago I would get decent service 80% of the time, now I would say it's decent only 20% of the time?

That's really poor. I'd definitely complain.

I’m in Canada and tried watching on my TV by connecting my laptop and it was constant buffering. Switched to my desktop computer and no buffering except Cliffs voice was quiet and Kevin’s was loud…is this their microphones??? Tried to switch back to the TV after halftime to watch on the big screen but still buffering so had to go back to desktop

For the amount they charge (more than pretty much ANY other subscription service), the product is far too unreliable.

I never use it unless I’m entirely out of options.

Had a similar issue here in Oz. It's so frustrating, given that it was a pretty reliable service a few seasons back.

Interesting to read these comments. I have subscribed to the video feed that the club has put out from way back in the days of Hibernian Interactive, and now Hibs TV. I pretty much watch every live game that goes out, and I would honestly say that out here in my small town in Alberta, Canada I have had about 95% problem free, buffering free, freeze free viewing.
I feel that the money I pay for Hibs TV is well worth it and have no complaints about the quality of the service.
I know enough about internet video feeds to say that the problem is not necessarily always the provider and that there are a number of points along the way that the feed can be affected and the simply assume that the problem is always at the source prevents other areas from being looked at and resolved.

Yep I have also noticed this season the buffering has increased. Not very tech minded so not sure of the source either but my IPTV has been really good with little or no buffering so far. Interested to read similar problems out there. Hopefully they will resolve the issue if it is on the HibsTv side. Ps. I’m a HibsTv subscriber.

I’ve experienced outages just before goals on SkyGo / ViaPlay too. Albiet yesterday I was on a train from London to Embra. But it’s happened at home too.I’m full fibre T.

I’d imagine the investment into this season maybe not as much as previous seasons given the amount of users

Last night, only paused for about 5 seconds…..enough though to go ‘here we go again’!

Previous 2 games had repeated screening of a green screen……with us sitting on the edge of our seats early in the morning not sure if it was going to correct itself, or if we needed to log out and back in.

Reminds me of the very early days of Hibs tv..which I thought we had left behind after a few years of excellent reception.

It’s not just me who experienced it…..right through Oz the experience was the same.

I've just received this reply from HibsTV re the buffering:

We have moved from 720 to 1080 HD which is now full HD.

This means that the device you are using is having to work twice as hard as before to view the match.

Live streaming is different from Video On Demand (VOD). VOD are pre-loaded videos and are used by Netflix or You Tube etc, with live streaming your device is having to deal with packets.

When you stream it, the video is compressed into those smaller packets so that they’ll be sent to your TV, laptop, phone, or tablet faster. Once they reach your device, the packets are decompressed and displayed on the screen.
Not every data packet is streamed at once; just as many packets that are needed for the viewer to watch the stream without it stopping if, for example, the Internet connection is compromised briefly. This is known as buffering. While you’re watching the already decompressed data packets, the next data packets are in the process of decompressing. Presuming you have a reliable network connection; you should be able to stream your film without any interruptions.
There are several other things that can cause buffering, these being:
    Running ad-blockers
    Running anti-virus software
Browser slowing down (safari) or not up to date.
Device not able to cope with the full HD.
Tv’s that do not have MPEG-DASH via an in-built browser.
    Local internet issues
    Wi-Fi dropping out.
When you login for the first time, the system will normally sit at 360 but should automatically jump to the full 1080HD.
If you are at 1080HD, your system may not be able to cope as per some of the issues named above, to combat either of those you need to click on the settings cog on the video player and this will allow you to change the rendition to either higher or a lower rate, this should then help resolve any issue.
The stream itself goes out without any issues and this is monitored with both the input and output, and this is checked throughout the whole match.
Please try some of the above information and hopefully this will help stop any buffering.
Where possible, you may have to connect to your device via an ethernet cable as this gives more stability than Wi-Fi.
