Who was the better player between those two Hibs/Villa midfielder heroes?

Ones a Hibernian Scottish cup winning legend.

European cups at other clubs have no interest to me.

Well in sentiment,it will be SJM
His love for the club, although a Celtic family background and the Cup win.
His favourite football memory/treasure to date !
I can recall two players that left Hibs in my time that would have the affection of the support John is having now.
    Joe Baker is one.

Alex Cropley. Great skill, could read the game. Majestic left peg and would run through walls for Hibs. A hibs fan who knew what it meant.

You would have to say McGinn as he has done it at international level.

Bremner was in the side where the ref decided the Hun keeper didn't bring down our player Colin Campbell in the box which would have won the cup.
We didn't flirt with relegation when Super left we did and then it happened post Des. I find them hard to split bus Des's tache over the McGinn beard every time

Des Bremner was a big raw rough round the edges Highland laddie when he came into the Hibs side at right back where he had to fill the boots of a living legend John Brownlie probably the best right back in Europe at that time

He grew into the role and later moved into midfield where he was an industrious box to box midfielder who left it all out on the pitch

His achievement of winning the English First Division The European Cup and European Super Cup with Villa should not be underestimated

We did not realise how good he was and the work he put in until he left in that crazy deal

    John McGinn ?

I just don’t think you understand

    He was Alan Stubbs’ man

    He’s better than Zidane

Des bremner was fantastic at Hibs and Villa the man's fitness was incredible im of and age to have seen him at both clubs . Mcginn is similar in that respect I would say Mcginn edges it being an all round modern midfielder.

IIRC that's about right, quite a few of us were a tad surprised a big club like Villa had come in for Des at the time. Shows what we know

SJM on the other hand, the only surprise about him was Hibs managed to hold onto him for so long.

Yip went to the next home game Dundee United I think big holes started appearing all over the pitch where Des would have been mopping up

I remember at the end of every game his top was always covered in sweat and his famous side parting was always matted to his head

Cannot split 2 proper Hibs heroes who I was fortunate to see a lot of,but I'd agree with those who went for Alex Cropley. Special player.

Yes some great players being quoted who played for Hibs and Aston Villa.

Could be argued there are two others who could be considered superior to the names quoted.

    Willie Hamilton & Davy Gibson.

Read something years ago that when Stanton went to Celtic, a few of the other Celtic players were asking him in the dressing room who the best played he’d played with, Pat replied Willie Hamilton. When the other started asking what about some of the other Tornadoes, a moment later Jock Stein flying came out the shower soaking wet to agree with Pat
