Now confirmed, according to Sky. They better hope he doesn't bolt mid-season again.

Stephen Kenny should never have got the job in the first . Been saying for months he should go . Hopefully not to far away now . I'd take Roy Rodgers as manager over this clown 😂

I find it astonishing they would be anything else but delighted

Easily in the top bracket of managers they could get

Totally agree though some I spoke to didn't want him back under any circumstances , calling him a rat and Judas . Rod stewart said it would be like taking back a cheating wife 😂 .

I know how they feel we have absolutely nothing to look forward to but listening to Kenny waffle on about how he's going to fix everything 🥱 . Thankfully we have plenty of Guinness to numb the pain though 😁

I think it’s more than Kenny. Don’t think they have the players anymore. Not too many playing at the highest level any more
Looking at Wales too, think they will struggle going forward too

Also he won't be coming back without a massive wedge to spend - if I was a Celtic fan I'd be rejoicing

Without “arguing in their favour” as you put it, I am quite interested to hear your reasoning to put them below the likes of Newcastle, Everton, Villa etc? English top 6 teams are genuinely regarded as modern day global institutions so fair enough and you’re right that despite what some old firm fans may want you to believe, I don’t think either two are quite that level. With that said I don’t think there’s really any credibility ranking them lesser than the likes of Newcastle- however we’re meant to measure these things.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Newcastle are probably the outlier of those teams due to the lack of success. But Villa, Everton are two of English footballs biggest clubs historically, Everton are a huge club, Villa too. Villa are my English team so I'll mention them as I know a lot more about them, plenty leagues, FA Cupa, European cups, and I know a lot make out that celtic have a huge global fanbase, and they do, but so do most big clubs down south. Villa have a 40k+ stadium with 27,000 on the season ticket waiting list, own part of Vitoria, in the process of starting an MLS franchise and own the academy Mo Salah came from in Egypt who I think have just been promoted to their top league. That's a club at the early stages of being one of those footballing institutions you mentioned. A bit of money spent properly and Everton could have done similar, albeit I get Villa have absurdly rich owners.

Winning a lot of scottish leagues in a two horse race doesn't make you a massive club globally.

They're both big clubs, yes, but as big as they think? Not even remotely close. I think, in the same way it's harder for English to realise how big the ugly sisters are, a lot of fans up here don't actually realise the size of some clubs down south that aren't at the top of the table currently.

I certainly didn't realise how big Villa, Everton etc actually were until I started following Villa more closely when my uncle died. I knew they were historically big, but I was blown away at the sheer size of some of England's bigger clubs when I looked more into it. Celtic and Rangers, imo, would fall just outside that category of the biggest clubs outside the big 6 in England, ie, the likes of Villa, Everton and at a push, Newcastle. Newcastles lack of success is the only thing I'd say makes that one more debatable.

It's not just English football, there's a lot of 'fallen giants' that are just as big, if not bigger than the old firm, but their fans would have you believe they're comparable to Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Totally agree that Ireland no longer have the players now though even against Greece it was plain to see how badly organised we were against them and even with poor player's some of the results should be better like losing to Luxembourg at home , drawing with Azerbaijan etc ..

Stephen Kenny has had 33 games as manager with only 9 wins and I can accept the squad is poor now though there has to be some signs of improvement and there's not been imo . Dunfermline athletic had the right idea in getting rid of this clown quickly , why the FAI are letting him carry on is beyond belief though he must be getting close to the chop now thankfully.

Listen, I want Ireland to do well… but that Luxembourg game did give me a chuckle. It was so stereotypically Scotland that it was amusing it wasn’t us.

Actually the word soccer comes from Association Football and originated in England. Another thing to blame them for .

Soccer is commonly used in other countries with different codes of football like Ireland (Gaelic Football) and Australia (Aussie Rules)

Aye , Scotland's had some tight times in the past too though Scotland have a good manager and some very good players now and I don't think you'll have to worry about a Luxembourg again anytime soon . Glad to see yous doing so well 👍.

Ireland will bounce back eventually though it needs to start with a change in manager even listening to him now shows how totally out of his depth he is tbh

Will give that a listen in a wee bit mate, all I know is FIL is not happy, how the tables turn in the space of a few years, eh

Edit: was he not quite successful with City and Dundalk? Or did Dundalk’s success come after he moved on?

Things can indeed change quickly in football . He had two spells at Derry city I think . Won the league with Dundalk before resigning to take up Ireland under 21 managers job

Lots of reports Rodgers will be announced as Celtic manager tomorrow. He's a good manager, but he will need to win over a substantial proportion of the fans once again. Many still hold a grudge about the way he left last time. If another English offer comes in, will he be straight out of the door again? It will be interesting to see how it unfolds.

Not just Aussie Rules in Oz but Rugby League too, especially in Sydney and Brisbane.

Even though it’s run by the Australian Football Federation, and some media organisations have been dragged into calling it football I cringe (and correct!) when in conversation the vast majority of locals call it soccer…or as Kylies say…socca.

The word soccer is banned in my house.

The one trick pony refers to his coaching style and the fact he plays the same way and does not have a plan B when things go wrong. Did not have the same level of competition when he managed Celtic before as he will face now. Let's see what happens.

To be fair to Rodgers, he won the treble and never lost a single domestic game all season. I'm not sure if that's ever been achieved, anywhere in world football let alone in Scotland.

The Rangers won the league without losing a game when the competition was of a better quality. Celtic have a financial
advantage over every other club so let's see what happens.

Yes, but they didn't win both the cups at the same time.

I really don’t understand that at all. Rangers were in the league the whole time he was there. Okay they were just promoted but Celtic blew them away and gave them some humiliating defeats. Won 2 trebles (one unbeaten) and set them on their way to a 3rd treble.

Just shows you people will try to find a negative in anything if they don’t think that’s an impressive achievement. Think he’ll do well again given Celtic seemed to have sorted themselves out which wasn’t the case when he joined in 2016 after Deila.

I'll go as far as to say Rodgers is an upgrade on Ange. He's a top level manager despite what happened at LC.
