Not my area of expertise Im afraid. I imagine that gifts are professionally valued by the Civil Service, or maybe an external contractor?

To be honest, I think you would have to be incredibly stupid not to declare anything presented as a gift and run it through the process. Or her aides would have to be incredibly stupid. Why take the risk (even if it's small it doesnt help with the perception)?

Anyway, I dont think there's much here. Simplest solution is often the right one. If they were gifts, they either didn't breach the limit or she paid the difference, in which case it would eventually end up in the log. Or they were a personal gift from a family member or her spouse. Or she bought them herself.

Well, you for a start. I remember calling you out about it just after the referendum. You and another foreign-based poster whose username was ‘retired’ were particularly vitriolic and vociferous about those ‘stupid’ enough to vote No.

And I’ve made the point I made in my post several times over the years, as have others. Sometimes at you, but there are others too. All too ready to blame the Scottish public for not accepting a flawed prospectus. Never ready to stop and think why you were rejected in the first place, without the comfort blanket of blaming a Big Bad Other.

So I thought I would make the point again, when I saw your post about Scottish voters needing to smell the coffee. That metaphor is usually defined as suggesting naivety or self-delusion. In this case you seem to be suggesting we are stupid for accepting the police investigation as lustified.

For what it's worth I don't think the Scottish electorate are stupid for not voting for independence, I think they've had the wool pulled over their eyes, just like the English electorate in the so called Red Wall constituencies did or the British electorate did when they voted for Brexit.

I know you'd love to sell the narrative that the nasty Nats think everyone else is stupid and I know why, but just because I think that eventually people will wake up to the lies being fed to them by the British State and their compliant media, doesn't mean I think they're stupid, it just means I think they've been manipulated into believing the class system in the UK is working for them when in reality it's only working for those who control it.

I’m not so sure the Labour Party have made such a virtue of salary sacrifice over the years as the SNP have . I have no problem with either party giving their main players a top up. This was needless secrecy though, it just looks bad.
It did cross my mind that it might be the start of the stop Robertson campaign. I love a wee bit of political intrigue.

I get the jokes. What I don't find funny is that there are still people who read media headlines as gospel with little to no regard to the stunts media outlets pull in order to generate them. Yeh, the FM salary is 140.5k.

What Murrell has been paid is less clear as his salary was stated in the party accounts up until 2013 then not listed for the next eight years. When it reappeared last year it was listed as circa 80k.
