Sportsound savaging Scottish officials for their use of VAR - even though it favoured Celtic today. All VAR has done up here is highlight just how bad our refs are - something we've all known for decades but was easily hushed up as there was little forensic scrutiny of incidents or decisions. VAR has changed that.

Refs bringing the game into disrepute up here
The entire governing body has brought the game into disrepute for decades.

I don't even bother watching any other Scottish game outside of Hibs anymore.

I love Scottish football but this year in particular I lost most of my enthusiasm for the game mainly due to decision's that have been given and not , certain referee's getting games they shouldn't be anywhere near and just feel it's getting destroyed by blatant cheating and corruption.

The Ambrose we had when he left obviously.

I’m actually quite surprised how much VAR has scunnered me with it. Prior to VAR coming in I was quite forgiving of Scottish football’s imperfections and I’m not bad at coming to terms with the “they even themselves out eventually” mindset.

With VAR - I was, and still am, in favour of it. It should be a force for good and help correct some of the poorer decisions. It has worked well at the big international tournaments and you can still see individual instances where wrongs are righted with it. I also think it’s important to allow (to an extent) for the subjective nature of what constitutes a foul. Where a robust debate can be had about a decision then the fact that it was given one way or the other can be justifiable.

Problem is, what we’ve got is simply farcical, especially in relation to the handball decisions and it’s actually detracting from the legitimacy of the competitions imo.

It’s not something that shouldn’t be salvageable but it’s hard to have faith in the Scottish authorities (and wider football authorities) to fix it.

Nobody can say they weren’t warned how VAR would be utilised in Scotland.

Been wonderful for the establishment clubs. Rest of us just have to keep quiet and get on with it.

What's going on with the Southampton/Villa match? Just looked up at my TV screen and every player and official has left the pitch, before half time.

I agree with this. I think it’s just highlighted that those who said the game was corrupt rather than referees being incompetent were right all along, imho.

The other clubs don't have it in them to grow a set of balls and do something about it.

With handball, there is a specific problem. They have forgotten why the law was made in the first place. It was to stop cynical attempts to block shots or passes of the ball with the player's hand. They need to bring back the deliberate ruling. Get the ref to assess. If he thinks its not deliberate, no foul.

VAR is another situation entirely, and its to do with selective application. And thats never going to change while the media is being so ****ing mealy mouthed about it. When you point out the obvious you are called a conspiracy theorist, but its corrupt. At least the Italians admit their problem now! We've got our heads in the sand. Two clubs with ten times everyone elses budget AND who get all the decisions. I love Hibs but whats the ****ing point.
