Thread: Best tv

I watched Mayflies the other night. Enjoyed it and thought it dealt with a difficult subject and the oddities of male friendship well.

I'm usually critical of TV shows dragging something out over too many episodes but I really thought Mayflies could have done with one more. Some of the flashbacks just felt crammed in and didn't really go anywhere and outwith the 2 main characters all the others just felt a bit underdeveloped. The postman/3rd friend clearly had a story to tell but it was merely a sidenote and was rushed and explained in little more than a couple of conversations. Same with Tam from Still Game.

It was good, moving and the cast was excellent but I just wanted a bit more.

They were up against it. Tight budget and a really quick turnaround from it being announced, made and released

I've been enjoying Friday Night Lights on Prime.

It lacks the humour of Ted Lasso, and it's American Football not Soccer, but there are some parallels.

    I recommend the book
There is no such thing as too much yarn, just not enough time.

Season five of Money Heist continuing to keep me entertained, even if they take the soppiness and alround sentimentality a bit far occasionally.

Anyone watched the Rig yet ?
    Watched the first episode tonight.

Quite a bit of over acting and plenty stilted dialogue with a topping of clunky plot devices was my summation.

That said it was reasonably fast paced so her indoors has decided episode 2 will get an airing tomorrow.

Watched two episodes last night. Some familiar actors, the Canadian lassie just comes over as a bit false and is a bit annoying. Im not sure what to think to be honest so may persevere with it so I can hopefully get into it a bit more

I’m enjoying The Rig, but I’m up to episode 3 and it felt like a bit of a filler. They could have condensed what happened down in to half an ep and cracked on with the main plot.

    Maybe I’m just impatient.

It doesn’t give me that hunger for more though, nothing really has since Line Of Duty tbh.

You'll be glad when you remedy that.

You must watch. When it was first aired a week felt like an enternity waiting on the next episode. Beware once you start watching on catch up you're probs going to forget to eat, wash, go to the toilet etc (slight exaggeration maybe, but that's how gripping it is)

We missed it originally but binged it during lockdown, great series although the last season wasn't as strong.

There's 7 series. Opinion was split on the last series, some thought it was brilliant. I've actually forgot a lot of the plots so might start watching again.

I’ve binned it after the second episode. All a bit forced and a bit daft.

The cliched big bad oil company actions and the very annoying Canadian always undermining the chiefs decisions.

The ridiculous delay in deciding “No one should go outside” to then have the very next scene of two of the main protagonists wandering about outside.

Telling the Medic to “Keep an eye on him” (the injured dude) to then see the medic immediately wander off so said injured dude can do the same thing shortly after with no one noticing.

The support vessel charging in at top speed in zero visibility then just swerving the rig and deciding to just not bother saving the day after all.

The complete lack of people or any work being done. Seems there is about 12 folk on this rig with nothing to do but sit about the rec room or eat in the canteen.

I could go on and on but won’t ruin it for others if they want to waste their time watching it

The Rig is quite possibly the worst thing I’ve ever seen which is disappointing as the trailer looked quality. Thought it was going to be about a haunted rig or a serial killer on the loose. Nope 😂
