Goalkeepers were smaller in the men's game 50 years ago and the goals were the same size as they are now e.g. Ronnie Simpson was 5"10

They'll just work on their 'springs'.
    Fair point.

There were also high scoring matches then as well. Maybe they should make the goals bigger in the mens game?…

The SWPL was a bit of shambles. One man and a dog trying to run it.... the youth part of it is even worse. Hopefully the sharing of resources will help the senior game but the talk of a larger top league is worrying. You dont increase the quality of the product by putting in more teams that arent good enough for that level. Talk of making it a 12 /14 team league would be a disaster. The football in the 2nd div is truly awful stuff and if more of them come up we will see even more double figure score lines.

They need to bring back Colt (u21) teams into the 2nd Div. That way the best players continue to get coached by the best staff, and arent just pushed into lower league teams for game time. The NPL leagues at youth level are a disaster. Again far too many teams, and not enough players to fill them so you end up with none of the teams being top class.

In many ways its similar to the Mens game. Far too many football teams. So everything becomes too diluted.
What would you say is a marker for success for Hibs Women in the near future? On and off the field.

Getting closer to Top3. Getting external sponsorship to allow them to sign better players. Building the academy to have more success at youth stages. CEO said they would be coming under the main part of the club next year i think. Be interesting to see what that means.

Do you think being a threat to the top 3 can be a realistic ambition, if the other stuff is done?

Building a reputation as the place which has the best young players, so a good stepping stone to a bigger stage (like Abi Harrison for example), which can make Hibs competitive against teams spending on more established names.

And, in terms of numbers through the gate, I realise this depends on where they will be playing (I think Meadowbank would the smart option), what's realistic in your opinion? Is aiming for 1000 per home game realistic?

I think Hibs may be the main contender to be the best supported women's team in the country, interest is increasing and those that have dipped their toe in the water seem to have enjoyed it. It seems we have a leg up on other teams in this sense.

Wolfsburg v Arsenal @ 5:45pm 1-1 from the first leg, they're playing this one at the 30k Volkswagen stadium instead of the womens normal ground, becoming more common for womens sides playing at the mens stadiums nowadays

big task for the Arsenal side which includes ex-Hibs and Scotland international Kim Little

winner takes on Barcelona in the SF

I was at the first leg (which was at the Emirates rather than in Boreham Wood where Arsenal usually play). Wolfsburg seemed happy to let Arsenal have the ball and were pretty adept on the counterattack. Arsenal had a lot of possession but didn't create much – Wolfsburg were mostly comfortable and unlucky not to be ahead going into the second leg.

Where is this investment coming from, as i dont see many people queuing up in Scotland, yet they are throwing money at it in England?
One of our major tv channels, Sportsnet has the games live every weekend, 3 or 4 of them.

been all Wolfsburg here, 9 mins played 1-0

i'm sure i read wolfsburg give a $10m playing budget to the womans side, could be nonsense right enough :)

    72 mins OG 2-0....unlucky arsenal

I noticed the club have added the option to add a donation to the community foundation again. For me they’ve missed a trick with this. Perfect opportunity to add in the option of a Womens season ticket for £50 or a donation.

Ellie roebuck is 5 foot 8, Gorum was 5,11 and was onecof the few under 6 foot. Maybe a slightly smaller goal would be better, although shots don't have the same speed in general so maybe evens out
Adjusting the goal was something I thought about for a while a few years back, however I think it's an easy and frankly, cheap get out.

The womens game should be allowed to grow and develop without constant comparison to mens football. We never criticise the best female athletes because they run the 100m slower than the men, or the high jump record is less than the mens. We acknowledge them as champions in their own right.

There's nothing wrong with high scoring games or aggregate scores of 8-5 etc. It's entertaining in its own right.

I will say this, hibs have had plenty keepers where I'd love to have made the goals smaller... or removed them altogether.

Just announced that the top league will change to 12 teams and no relegation this season. A stupid decision that really wont help the game. The idea that a team like Boroughmuir Thistle could be in the top league is madness.

Could see some double figures games coming. Even Dundee United shipped ten to Hibs in August.

On the plus side, Meggetland is easier to get to than Ainslie Park or Livingston for me, if the women are playing them.

It’s becoming more like the mens league every day and making same mistakes.

Old Firm dominance - rest playing for 3rd / 4th - with or without investment.

Teams protecting themselves from relegation like Spartans / Hearts / Hamilton.

8 team SWPL 2 is nonsense also.

They keep wanting to change set up and rarely let things settle to see how they develop.
8 team top league. 14 team league below. Bring back colts teams to ensure the best youth players are being pushed and developed.

When did they stop using colts in the women's game?

I think about 5 years ago? Used to be hibs 23s, Celtic also, maybe Spartans too. The idea was the NPL 19s would replace that but that’s been a shambles. Again far too many teams. At the moment all the good young players either sit on the bench and get 10 mins here and there or go on loan to teams that play awful football. But the smaller teams won’t accept the move back to colts that as they only care about the team they run and not the development of the game.

It sounds like the only to get them back in then would be a compromise of a larger SWPL 2 to accomodate both.

Just like the mens game they never come out with any logic for the changes they make. Attendance will end up actually going down at this rate.

Colts teams still caused issues as teams won leagues and then it sometimes the 4th or 5th best team getting promoted.

It does seem what happened quite a few years ago was working fine and brining through young players.

Now teams like Rangers seem to be stock piling players and like you say loaning them but getting rubbish coaching and playing in a relegation scrap.

Regarding Hibs - is the plan still to move to Meadowbank ?

Was there ever a statement to that effect?

I thought we were all just hoping that's what the plan was.

They need a new coach. The guy is clueless out his depth. Not quite sure how he even got the job.

Lost too many games they should be winning with the players they have..

Hearts 1st ever loss to them. That was embarrassing.
Patrick Thistle x2 (conceded 7 goals to them)
    Spartans
    Aberdeen

Plus Celtic / Rangers / City defeats (not expected to win these but gap gets bigger).
    100%

He's the worst in the league. Time to go.

thing is they've been pretty competitive in the games against those three, apart from the hammering last week at Parkhead it's harder to criticise the women over the men but i have noticed they do have a few players that will simply not play at a higher level than where they're at

doesn't get any easier with rangers Away up next, then...

    Partick away again
    Hamilton- H
    Aberdeen- H
    Hamilton- A
    Glasgow city- H

i still think they will hold on to 4th, next season will see Hearts, Aberdeen and Spartans getting stronger, it's going to be a battle to stay best of the rest

Totally agree. The players are slipping up too often and kaing hard work of other games, and from what I've seen it's not because they aren't putting a shift in or don't have the quality.

Craig Fowler was saying similar on the Terrace a few weeks back. His selections and tactics boggle the mind sometimes

Playing a wide back 3 against Celtic last week was an odd one.
