1/1/73 - I was on leave from the Army, took a couple of English army mates to the match. One was a Peterborough supporter, the other a Chelsea fanatic. Both were amazed at the pace of the game, how many passes were played so quickly on the ground and the quality of the dribbling football on show.

Years later a jambo pulled Jimmy O'Rourke in a boozer and said !
See THAT game ,Hertz cooda been 2 up in the first 10 minutes "
To which Jimmy replied
" Well .it would have been 7-2 then ! "
Oh Jimmy also said "When we played in South Morocco,i must have been dropped ...again!
Older fans will get that one.

We just had a feeling that we were going to do something special that day. They would not open the gates at half time to let the Hearts fans out. The next game at Tynecastle I was standing beside a guy who had a 7 0 banner, the police came into
the crowd and arrested him. They also arrested an older guy next to him who questioned them. A few others who came in with banners with 7 0 on them and were also arrested. The police said it was to avoid crowd trouble, that was their excuse.

I love this thread, especially the one's with the youtube links.
I was at all those games in the late 60's and 70's, where it looks like the shape i'm in now, i'd get the gig to referee some of those games.

Sums Darren McCormack up that game. Hibs just score, right on top, and he hits the guy back and both down to 10. We win easily if he uses his brain and hits the deck.

The disgraceful thing about the Edwards booking against East Fife was that having been kicked up and down by Love with many fouls not given Alex managed to get free from a Love grapple but instead of playing advantage Syme blew for a foul. Edwards, exasperated, picked up the ball to show he’d got it and then threw it down. Booked.

Did Edwards really get a 10 game ban ? In those days I think bans were for a period of time rather than a set number of games.
I think it was against East Fife and he got a yellow card for protesting about being fouled for the umpteenth time. No doubt some Weegie ref worried about how well Hibs were playing and might upset the Uglies monopoly of the league.
