Seen both modern IT movies and the Oasis ‘knebworth’ film fairly recently and I wouldn’t write home about any of them.

Second IT was pretty long and drawn-out, Knebworth was essentially just a film of the gig offering little else and not a patch on supersonic, which I think it wanted to be.

    Castle for Christmas on Netflix.

It’s as bad as you can imagine.

Netflix described it as “the most accurate depiction of Scotland ever seen on screen”…they are very very wrong.

Agree lasted only 10 minutes with it and switched off in disgust.

Watched 14 Peaks Nothing is Impossible on Netflix last night, incredible story about Nepali mountaineer Nimsdai Purja on a quest to summit all 14 of the world's 8,000-meter peaks in seven months. A task that had taken others years to achieve. Stunning photography, Nims is an ex Gurkha and his fitness levels are superhuman. Well worth a watch.

I’ve always said it’s my favourite of the trilogy. Brilliant film.

Probably the order of least famous to best known that I prefer them, with the good, the bad and the ugly in third (though still a quality film)

Just watched the Power of the dog on Netflix, don't understand the good reviews for it, I thought it was dull and not much happened over the two hours

Watched “Hang ‘Em high “ good but couldn’t take it seriously as “Blazing saddles” must have used it as a template

    Agreed.

Not a lot different from the original, but you can't really improve on that.😍

I went to see Clifford the big red dug today with the bairn, it’s not going to win any Oscars but it was one of the best kids films I’ve been forced to sit through.

    United we stand here....

Saw the new Matrix yesterday. Watchable, but just a cash grab as no real story to justify the point of it. It also tries too hard to be clever and meta.

Watched The Terminal on Netflix today, really good film. Tom Hanks is excellent in it and I’d forgotten how good he was in a comedy role.

Talking of old films, we watched Some Like It Hot yesterday, they don’t make films like that anymore.

Managed to catch most of it whilst tidying up the Christmas Day massacre that was my kitchen.
Great movie but Donald O'Connors talent comes dangerously close to overshadowing Gene Kellys.
A much underrated state performer of his time that was relegated to support roles with the exception of his "Francis" series of movies.
That aside, pretty amazing when you think Gene & Donald's dance skits were generally filmed in one take with one camera, before resetting the stage then going again from a different angle. I can't think of many performers nowadays that could better, or even match their entertainment abilities.

DOC was an incredible talent. Without him, SITR wouldn't have been the same; that walk up the wall is one of my all-time favourite movie moments.

He's my second-favourite hoofer of all time, behind Kelly. As you say, though, if he'd had the chance to lead in more movies....

The original West Side Story is on this afternoon.. 😍

I largely hate the cinema and don't have the attention span to sit down and watch movies on TV when there are so many other more engaging things to grab my time, but my partner has been trying to subject me to "classic" movies that I've missed when the local cinema shows them.

In the past three weeks, been to see The Matrix (good special effects, a bit simple otherwise but could happily switch off and watch it) and Die Hard (extremely mindless but very much enjoyed it).

The girl in the yellow jumper.....filmed in Uganda but in English, based on a true story....which seems unbelievable and like something Tarantino would write......well worth a watch. *warning has scenes that will have you squirming!!

Watched the latest Bond movie on Boxing Day, really don’t get the hype and great reviews it gets, wasn’t overly impressed at all.

Good satire. Almost a spot on snapshot of life today. You could really imagine it playing out for real. A bit slow to begin with but it got going.

Watched Don’t look up on Netflix last night….didn’t get it, don’t know if you need so prior knowledge of something or if I just totally missed it but I thought it was poor despite a really good cast

  30. #89
I thought “Don’t Look Up” was pretty awful.

Massive fan of the director and it’s a great cast. But it’s message and the plot is so obvious and on the nose after the first 20 minutes. It’s a satire that just isn’t very funny.

Tonally, it’s all over the place. Ron Perlman as the astronaut seems to be acting in a different film from Timothee Chalomet for example - although the least said about his character the better. There’s 20 minutes the film could have done without.

I also thought Mark Rylance’s performance was cringe worthy.

As you can tell, I hated the film!

I thought the whole film was just bizarre.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, vodka in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, "WOO HOO what a ride!"
