Yup... omicron has reconnected the link between cases and hospitals that vaccinations had previously broken... not because of folks being admitted this time but because of staff self isolating reducing managable bed capacity.

I wonder if the talk of it burning out quicker will end up in the self isolation period being reduced back to 7 days to help reduce the impact.
Too many people needing to go into hospital should be the only reason for hospitals being unable to cope.

If the only reason for hospitals being unable to cope is because of self isolation rules and they would be able to function much better if there were more staff at work instead of being at home self isolating then we need to rethink the rules around self isolation for a virus that's now causing far fewer people to be admitted to hospital - if indeed that is the case.

Edit.. PS I know I must sound like a broken record but it the numbers catching it that's the issue with this varient and a lot of folks seem fixated on hospitalisations etc which with omicron are only an issue (volume wise) if there's staff shortages.
I said the other day consideration should be given to reducing self isolation to 7 days. I'm on day 6 now and positive line on LFT is almost non existent, by tomorrow it will be gone.

You could even include the caveat that people have to test out at day 7 using an LFT.

I don't disagree, it's not totally either/or though... capacity is being taken by covid patients and cases are driving staff shortages, both impact available capacity hence the 'pressure' on the NHS.

Reducing isolation time surely has to be a consideration to help reduce the staffing impact. The vaccination programme motoring along is a biggie that will get us out the other end though.

Yep. Leitch spoke out about outdoor stadia being safe, so if she goes ahead with this, she’s now ignoring her own advisers.

Just got a half season ticket so ill be beyond angry if she targets sports with zero evidence base. Folk will just go to pubs, which has a greater risk. People who aren’t vaccinated/boosted will rightly be asking what the point is.

Yes me. We were told the vaccines where the way out of this. We got them and the passports to prove it.

You can understand why people have had enough and are finished with all this ****. Depending on what is said at this briefing today it's looking a certainty that the football will get shut down despite little or no evidence that cases have came from this sport.

Yes for two reasons, I’ve had three jabs plus I’ve already paid out for 3 ST’s for a whole season without seeing a game.

If I miss out on a substantial amount of games again I can see myself drifting away from the game after buying ST’s for around 30 years.

Still maximum 1000 or has that been lowered? For all the difference it makes at ER, of course.

Leitch said he was worried about fans mixing pre and post match in pubs and on transport, so his advice is hardly being ignored. Unless you are suggesting the grounds are open but all the pubs are shut before and after and folk are forced into private transport?

It must be like a bit of a dream for politicians of all colours in the Scottish Parliament. A chance to have a go at football fans and alcohol (primarily the 'wrong type' of alcohol) at the same time. If they could find a way to limit access to take aways they would have a full house on attacking their obsessions.

Booster at lunchtime today. So far so good with even the arm not really giving me jip.. but obviously too early to know if I’ll be getting the s*** feeling.

Busy with appointments where I was today. Was there about half an hour which is the first time I’ve not just been in and out. Good, slick and comfortable process as always though.

I'm sure MSPs will have advance sight of her statement.

Pretty sure that's usually how things are done.

Football's an easy target for this kind of thing. Because of its high profile it allows the government to look like its taking major action, without actually inconveniencing the majority of the population. While there's thousands of folk in the country who go to games week in, week out we're still very much in a minority. You could see that in the summer when the Disgusted from Morningside types were writing letters to the papers saying grounds shouldn't reopen, even though ultimately doing so had very little impact on case numbers. Keeps those types happy.
