I think that’s your version of the situation. To me, Equality, diversity and inclusion remains a major topic . In everyday life and in the workplace people are much more aware of prejudice and inequalities. Delighted that’s the case…

Black Live matter fight goes on, and yes people are repurposing the term woke as a negative thing, but for me it remains a positive term. It was derived to note those who were becoming alert to the prejudices faced by many minorities. If you want to use it that way, then so be it…but it is a right if centre view of the term, which does nothing to recognise where is grew from.

We talk about current topics across all domains a lot on this forum. It’s driven by the news cycle. Just because we do so, doesn’t mean we care less about topics of last year, whether it’s about football, politics or prejudice….that’s just the nature of social forums…..

You've just listed some reasons you think people voted Conservative. You could be right.

Maybe they didn't though. Maybe they voted for genuine, decent reasons?

Is voting for the party you trust most with the economy a trite reason, or a decent, genuine one?

It seems like this thread is painting all Conservatives with the same brush. There will be voters of many races, religions or levels of wealth that vote for all parties, Tories included.
You’d have to be ****ing mental to trust these Tories with anything, let alone the economy.

To be fair they are doing a pretty decent job of transferring the wealth generated by the economic activity of the many into the hands of their chums and they all clearly trust each other.

Andrew Bowie to quit his role in protest over sleaze scandal (thelondoneconomic.com)

Andrew Bowie is set to quit his role as the Conservative party’s vice-chairman with the party embroiled in a sleaze scandal.
The MP for West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine told the Tory party on Tuesday he wanted to step down once a replacement was found

    Appreciate it!

I'm thinking I should back out of this one for a while and give folk some peace again.

Maybe I'll go take a peek in the Brexit thread instead, or the Indy one.....

No need to back off. Can't say I agree with much (any!) of your political stance but you at least put up a defence and that is to be applauded. Maybe we will all wear you down and before you know it you will be voting SNP and campaigning for Indy!!🙂

I've got an open mind, crack on.

Oops, straying into a new territory there, I'll stop, don't want to distract y'all from the main topic here!!

Let's spend £200,000 reinventing the wheel, so to speak.

For me, the car charging breakthrough will happen when they can design a charging system that can wirelessly charge, in the same way that some phones can be charged by simply laying them on a wireless charging pad.

UK is not a corrupt country, says Boris Johnson

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-59238464

    1. The UK is not a corrupt country, the tory party is corrupt.

    2. The fact that the question was raised and has to be answered, at an international conference, should be a concern to us all [in the UK].

I felt quite bad about not intending to vote in the last Scottish election so I went along and simply spoiled my ballot.

I still took part in the democratic process but made my point albeit in a way that is ultimately meaningless and futile. Come the next election if there aren't significant shifts from any of the 2 major parties I would seriously consider voting for then I will do the same again. I might have voted SSP on the list this year but they didn't stand candidates. I'm beyond voting for the least bad option now. They say you get more right wing as you get older but I find myself thinking increasingly radical thoughts. I'm fed up hearing about consensus and watching parties walk a tight rope trying to offer sops to people across the political spectrum.

I quite like the rhetoric and action from a few of the younger and new Labour MSPs, Pam Duncan-Glancy and particularly Mercedes Villalba. The latter has spoken well multiple times in Holyrood and seems very active locally. Hopefully a few of these types can find themselves closer to the real power of the party in the years to come.
Totally agree, I'm definitely going further left as I get older. I have voted SSP in the past and would consider doing so again but like you said they tend not to stand in my area either. I'll always go to the polling station and spoiling a paper is actively taking part in the process for me too. I wouldn't say it is meaningless spoiling a paper though, I would encourage anyone who thinks no-one standing is fit to represent them to spoil their paper rather than not vote. I would love spoilt papers to actually win a ballot, it may actually create some change

And even if it meant they didn't get elected at all?
That would be fine too. I get it is a collection of views so the Labour Party will not necessarily be as left as I would like but the current Party isn't a million miles away from the Tories of the 70s. I don't expect my perfect view of socialism to be reflected in the Labour Party but I want it to be recognisable as a Labour Party. How could I have any joy in wanting the Tories dressed in Red winning. I'd rather stick with my beliefs and a party that represents them keep arguing for them. I'll just have to wait for a Party like that to actually stand in my area.

Paul Dacre: a rigged appointment - Good Law Project

When it comes to the Prime Minister’s allies, there’s a pattern emerging in Downing Street. When Boris Johnson doesn’t like the outcome of an official process, he tries to rip up the rules and start again.
We saw it with the Owen Paterson scandal and we’re seeing it again now with the rigged appointment process for the new Chair of media regulator Ofcom.
Paul Dacre is the former editor of the Daily Mail of 26 years, and Johnson’s preferred candidate for the top job at Ofcom. He’s in a bit of a pickle though, given that an interview panel deemed Mr Dacre “not appointable” just a few months ago.

    'kin stinks
