[QUOTE=CockneyRebel;6606275]I have lived here for thirty years too, pretty much got over the England thing on here years ago as I began to realise that some of the points raised are pretty valid. Each to their own but the tone of some of your responses is bound to provoke a similar response just as it would if you said it face to face. I love the banter on here regarding England and Scotland and pretty much never get myself wound up about it anymore though I admit I used to. I respect that I am posting on a Scottish football forum and if I post GIRUY Scotland which I rarely do these days then I fully understand and accept the response it will receive..This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Spot on imo. It was always going to be wall to wall coverage on the news channels, but it's even spilled over to the morning programmes. No doubt loose women will do their bit for the cause. 😏

We’d be luck to even have two Scottish pundits to go with Gary. Likely have Roy Keane, Graham Souness and Juergen Klinsman.
That’s the point. It should be a Scottish lead production serving Scots in that situation.

1. In footballing terms, England are absolutely a different country to Scotland. Given the history, and the fact that we share a border, I'd suggest that it's even more marked than the Denmark/Germany analogy as there is already an established 'rivalry' there. Making the fact that we get 'English' (British) coverage even more bizarre.
2. I'm not quite following your Andy Murray logic. His is an individual sport first and foremost, he only plays for 'his country' in the Davis Cup and the Olympics, and that country is GB, not Scotland. Of course it's been embraced by the English commentary teams, as there is no distinction between England and Scotland in tennis.
...and I'm done!

Been at some wonderful international matches such as the first time Scotland beat England at Hampden since before the war but started to lose interest when the team became more and more full of mediocre old firm players at the expense of players from other clubs and lost interest generally with international teams from most sports when they filled up with players who were only there because they couldn't get a game for the country they were born in.
Commentators have got worse and worse. Goodness knows what today's ones would have made of the non foul West Germany were given that led to their equaliser just before the end of normal time in 1966. Wolstenholme just carried on as normal(refs were always right in his commentaries). Once the co-commentator arrived I started to turn down the sound .Apart from the fact that they were usually talking over the action it's like having a couple of blethers sitting behind you at ER who won't shut up and watch the game.I seldom bother with the pundits but I think Graeme Souness is by far the best.

So after all that's been said what is the protocol?
Support England cause they're part of the UK?
Support who they play not because we hate the English but the fierce rivalry that exists?
Listen to biased OTT commentary but moan about it?
Watch the game but mute the telly?
Or just forget all that nonsense and enjoy the football?

Chill out and enjoy the feast of football, I know I am. Hopefully Italy will win it but if they don't and it turns out to be England then at least their fans get to finally have the joy of laying the 1966 ghost to rest, regardless of the irritating pundits. As a serially underperforming football nation I can't help feeling their fans would be getting a fair bit of what we experienced in May 2016 and that would be some joy to witness. The downside for me would be how it would play into the whole Boris Johnson jingoistic mood but who gives a **** about him?
Or get wound up by it as a proxy for other non football matters. What ever floats your boat.
I think we can all agree that Rio Ferdinand, nice guy though he probably is, is truly mince as a talking head though? Actually I think Ally McCoist is a decent balance of insight and nonsense.

Mute the TV! I do that anyway nowadays or find a foreign commentary so I can't understand the nonsense they're spouting!
