Was Hanlon not the Scotland captain at lower age levels? He had loads of U21 caps iirc and regularly captained the side, although I could be wrong.

If so, having done that at an early age, played for Hibs through thick and thin under various managers and captains and now been chosen to be captain, what exactly is it about him that suggests he's not up to captaining Hibs?

Apart from anything else he has been superb this season and at times when we've been flagging a bit further forward, he's driven us on.

We were poor as a team on Saturday but I honestly don't think either Hanlon individually or as a captain was the problem.

Our best sides have had captains throughout the team who would spur each other on. Too many players just disappeared into themselves on Saturday.

You could argue that it's to Hanlon's credit that after those incidents he dusted himself down, put them out his mind and got on with winning the game.

Team lose goals, keepers make howlers, defenders cost goals, all of them do.

The best don't do it often, and when they do they bounce back.

It can also help defenders be proactive, bold and aggressive when they know they have a keeper who will bail them out if they get it wrong.


Macey bailed out Porto on Saturday, shame we didn't have anyone to capitalise on the fact.
