I was at that replay at East End Park in '81 with my Dad.

I mentioned previously how low the crowd was at the first game at ER and I'm sure there was about 2-3k more at this one.

Strangely, it was quite common then to play in front of poor crowds at ER but pretty decent attendances, with a big travelling Hibs support, when we played the same teams away from home.

Quite similar maybe with what we see with Kilmarnock in recent times. Poor home attendances but a very good away support. They must have a high percentage of their home support attending away games, where by contrast, despite our home attendances rising quite considerably over the years our travelling support hasn’t really changed in size over time. If anything it’s smaller than what it once was.

    29/1/2000 Scottish Cup Round 3

    Hibernian 4 v 1 Dunfermline Athletic

    K Miller
    Brebner
    Murray
    Collins

An easy victory for HIBS on a wind swept Easter Road

Young Kenny Miller was alert and rushed into the box to head home the opener after only two minutes

Matty Jack gave Dunfermline a lifeline after 30 minutes when he was uncharacteristically short with a pass-back and could only watch in horror as David Graham waltzed around Colgan to fire home the equaliser

Grant Brebner eased the hibee nerves just before half-time when he restored HIBS’ lead

Second half and HIBS gave a debut to young Ian Murray who scored with his first touch firing home from close range after a Kenny Miller effort had been blocked on the line

HIBS now stepped up the pressure as the wind increased and it was obvious that poor Dunfermline were being outclassed

Derek Collins scored his first goal for the club to complete an easy victory when he lobbed Pars keeper Mampaey with only minutes to go

A small crowd of 15000 in the dark cold days of January turned up to witness a below par performance and the last game the legendary forward line would ever play together as a unit in the League.

John Buchanan and arch nemesis Tommy Ring x 2 would score for Clyde

Hibs with a strong wind at their backs took the lead when Jock Stein was short with a pass back and Angus Plumb took advantage waltzing around the Rovers goalkeeper to slot home

Gordon Smith then took command with a run and strike that happened so quickly that the Rovers keeper never even moved

HIBS then contrived to miss a penalty when Cairns struck the outside of the post

A third goal arrived in the last 10 minutes when Smith doubled his tally putting HIBS firmly at the top of the League

30/1/2016 Scottish League Cup Semi Final

    Hibernian 2 v 1 St Johnstone

    Cummings pen 29
    McGinn 74

Hibs knocked out Premier League St Johnstone after a titanic struggle at a cold and snowy Tynecastle Park

Hibs took the lead on the half hour when Jason Cummings calmly rolled in a controversial penalty award

Hibs’ delight was short lived however as ex hibee David Wotherspoon swung in a superb ball and Joe Shaughnessy angled a header into Mark Oxley’s top left hand corner

Into the second half and Simon Lappin rattled Oxley’s crossbar with a freekick as the game swung from end to end

With 15 minutes to go John McGinn scored with a low drive from distance as HIBS started to dominate

The Perth side never gave up with Oxley tipping over another Shaughnessy header and the ineffective Michael O’Halloran blasting over from a decent position

Hibs fell behind after 9 minutes when Sol Bamba deflected a Steven Robb cross into his own net

HIBS equalised on the half hour when Colin Nish held up the Saints defence and Liam Miller majestically strode through the middle to fire a composed finish past Paul Gallacher

A cracking match at Easter Road played in freezing weather strong winds and a white hot atmosphere

Mark Hateley gave Rangers the lead just before half-time

Pat McGinlay equalised on 70 minutes to send the East radge but Trevor Steven put Rangers ahead 30 seconds later Hateley added a third with a header one minute later to further deflate the Hibees

Darren Jackson pulled one back with a volley from a tight angle after a stramash in the box

Ally McCoist then scored for Rangers with five minutes to go

Pat McGinlay pulled back a goal in injury time to make the scoreline look more respectable

HIBS were left to rue missed chances but left the pitch to the sound of Hibees Hibees ringing in their ears the fans appreciating a valiant effort in defeat against a very good and expensively assembled Rangers side

Mickey Weir opened the scoring on the half-time whistle to cap a brilliant performance when he fired home a half cleared Joe McBride corner through a forest of legs

Dunfermline came out fighting second half shooting downhill playing good football with Watson and John Young both testing Roughie with headers

Think that Clyde game was at Firhill. Absolutely Baltic. Also think it was Miller's first goal for Hibs - a cross-cum-shot (to be generous) that deceived the keeper.

    Edit: 1991 Clyde game obviously
I was at this game in 1991 at Firhill. Yes, it was utterly Baltic.

Parked the car near Ruchill Park (the place where Chic Charnley chased some locals brandishing swords) and after the game we were treated to some Ruchill/Possilpark hospitality as locals lobbed stones from the houses.

Possil, the only place in Scotland where you keep stones INSIDE the hoose!! 😮

I'd given up my season ticket a number of years earlier and hadn't been back due to real life priorities. Then Hibs announced a share issue but only to those fans on the database, and this was the game I picked to buy a ticket so that I was eligible. Despite the ending, I attended a few more games for a couple of seasons when time permitted, before finally cracking and getting another season ticket.

Can't escape being a Hibs fan

I was at that game against Stirling in '99 and had to sit in the home end, as the Hibs tickets were all sold out.

Managed to not give myself away, as there wasn't a lot to cheer about in the Hibs performance.

Jonathan Grounds now there’s a blast from the past, he went onto become a regular at Birmingham.

Amazing that we went out of the Scottish Cup in the first (for us) round to Stirling Albion and were beaten 4-0 in the League Cup by St Johnstone.

Good job social media wasn't really around in those days, or the Fans would have been calling for McLeish's resignation

Was at both poor season in both cups. Huge crowd in Perth for the league cup think it was one of the biggest away supports they have ever had.
Another cup let down for the fans.

I don't know if my memory is playing tricks on me, but didn't we have supporters in both the North and South stands?

Reference the disastrous Stirling Albion cup tie. Here’s a question for you history boys that follow this thread. What was the common factor between David McCallum and Chris Jackson who scored for the Binos that night. Please note Billy as the curator of this thread you are not allowed to answer this question.

Re the cup tie in 1957 when we lost 3-4 to Aberdeen, on that same day Hearts lost to Rangers in the cup at Tynecastle & Scotland played France i think at Murrayfield! About 120k attended the 3 games. Nowadays, with all the modern equipment & technology they can't cope with 20k at ER & Tiny on the same day!

It was some game against Aberdeen. Jackie Wren showed he was an even worse goalie than most of had thought. Willie Ormond hit the post twice in the last couple of minutes with ferocious shots, one from 25 yards. This might have been the game after which Lawrie Reilly was diagnosed with pleurisy.

Of course. It kept him out of the World Cup . Probably a lucky escape.

    3/2/2018 Scottish League Premiership

    The Rangers 1 v 2 Hibernian

    McGinn 41
    MacLaren pen 75

Super John McGinn puts HIBS ahead with a typical driving run and finish

The Rangers equalised with an admittedly brilliant free-kick from Sean Goss-who?

Scott Allan is then unceremoniously pulled down in the penalty box

Jamie MAC almost makes a Horlicks of the penalty kick but the ball ends up nestling in the back of The Rangers net

    Glory! Glory!

    https://youtu.be/twQCB0VgkUk

Hibs Rocky Bartley Porteous Ambrose Stevenson Boyle Allan McGinn McGeouch Barker and Kamberi

    Subs MacLaren Shaw Swanson

    Att 50000

Footnote: IIRC HIBS were short at the back and Lewis played CH in this game

    3/2/2013 Scottish Cup Round 5

    Hibernian 1 v 0 Aberdeen

    Deegan 49

A glorious strike from 25 yards by Gary Deegan and a late brilliant penalty save by Ben Williams from Niall McGinn was enough to see Hibernian into the quarter final of the Scottish Cup

    https://youtu.be/pKCJ6ldPdns

    3/2/2007 Scottish Cup Round 4

    Hibernian 3 v 1 Gretna

    Jones 28
    Fleming og 54
    Benji 59

Martin Canniing played for Gretna IIRC

    3/2/1996 Scottish League Premier Division

    Celtic 2 v 1 Hibernian

    Jackson

    Dearie me!

This was the game where Jim Leighton went off injured after a clash of heads with John Collins

Darren Jackson who had given HIBS an early lead temporarily went in goals Unfortunately he made a hash of a cross and Pierre Van Hooijdonk scored

Darren Jackson then thought Leighton was coming back on took off his goalie top and took up a forward position The Referee refused to allow Leighton to return to the field of play Hibs never had a goalie and Celtic scored

After consulting with his linesman the goal was ruled out and Leighton took up his position in goal

Paul McStay scored the winning goal on 67 minutes with a magnificent volley but it must be the first time HIBS have got any decision in Glasgow

    https://youtu.be/xo_ADO-EkdQ

Veteran defender Joe McLaughlin made his debut for HIBS

    3/2/1973 Scottish Cup Round 3

    Hibernian 2 v 0 Morton

    Higgins
    Cropley

    3/2/1968 Scottish League Division One

    Dunfermline Athletic 0 v 1 Hibernian

    McGraw

A glorious 15 yard strike by Alan Quickdraw McGraw gives Hibernian the points on a snowbound East End Park

    3/2/1962 Scottish League Division One

    Falkirk 1 v 4 Hibernian

    Falconer 2
    G Baker
    Kinloch

Hibs put on a display of fast attacking football that blew Falkirk away with surprise top scorer Duncan Falconer scoring a double and Bobby Kinloch catching a beautiful ball on the volley to score the fourth

John Lambie and Willie Ormond played for Falkirk on this day

    3/2/1951 Scottish League Division One

    Celtic 0 v 1 Hibernian

    Turnbull

60000 turned up to watch this match played on a tricky slippy snow covered surface

The HIBS players wore rubber soled boots to try and combat the conditions

Only one goal was scored and luckily for HIBS it was a typical Eddie Turnbull thunderbolt early in the second half

Hibs would win the League in this season

Hibs Younger Govan Ogilvie Buchanan Paterson Gallacher Smith Johnstone Reilly Turnbull and Ormond

This one a real head scratcher

At first I was thinking Great Escape ( Gordon Jackson and David McCallum )

But my only sensible guess would be both released by that master footballing tactician Alex McLeish

Revenge is a dish best served cold

    That's brilliant, Billy

I think we should try to get commentators that speak like they did in the Good Old Days. The Queen's English and Received Pronunciation, old chap!
