    Daily Scottish update;

1,165 new cases since yesterday - 11.1% positivity rate
284,582 people in Scotland have now received their first dose of the vaccine - 19,591 people since yesterday
Increase of 30 in the confirmed cases in hospital
Increase of 4 in the comfirmed cases in intensive care
    71 deaths registered since yesterday
10,500 tests is quite low compared to usual (thought we'd been at about 20k/day for a while), which I'm taking as an encouraging sign I think.

I heard Sturgeon say that part of the reason for the slow rollout of vaccines is due to Scotland's geography and having some remote areas.

That may be the case but conversely 70% of the population live in the central belt. We really need to see the vaccine rate pickup or the SG are quite rightly going to get hammered.
Just on that point, a friend's mother lives in a village five miles from Beauly in Inverness-shire. She is unable to leave her home to travel for her vaccine. A medic is being sent on a special journey out to vaccinate her which will take two hours of his/her time. How many people could that person vaccinate in a hub somewhere, what is it, one every fifteen minutes = Total 8 vaccinations? (I've no idea about that, just a pure guess).

England of course has it's own rural areas but it's easy to see how geography can make a significant difference.

According to this article, it seems the new variant is sweeping through care homes in England, and has overcome some of their defences.
I’ll attest to that. My wife’s Granny who lives in a Care Home (shelters accommodation I think) was due to get hers two weeks ago. Covid hit the home and the doctors refuse to go in to vaccinate.

Not sure if I agree with that or not. Obvious risks to the medical staff, but at the expense of those who can least fight the disease.

Now have no idea when she is expected to get her jab.

This is in Hertfordshire BTW. So England’s statistical slow vaccination of the care home residents is backed up with my anecdotal evidence from my family.

BBC don't expect any new restrictions, just clarity than the stay at home order will continue beyond the end of January.

Schools expected to stay closed until at least the February break.

I don't think any of that comes as a surprise.
That makes sense, I half expect schools to stay the same down here until the Easter holidays.

    Johnson always copies Sturgeon anyway.

Physical distancing, hand hygiene, face coverings and possibly travel restrictions to be in place for some time to come.

As soon as everyone is vaccinated they will find it harder and harder to justify that to the masses

Sturgeon say that? Good luck getting people to adhere to that when almost everyone had had the vaccine

Hate when they make these sort of statements.

How long is some time? 3 months? 6 months? A year?

She didn't say all of those things would be in place until the point when almost everyone's been vaccinated, to be fair to her.

She's not some kind of seer - too many variables to put a timeline to it, and let's be honest - putting a timeline to it and failing to hit that target is FAR more unwelcome than being deliberately vague at the outset.

Not surprised at the announcement today but equally not happy. Not at the FM, just the situation. She's called it right.

During a world wide pandemic I think looking that far ahead telling folk these things will go is dangerous

It's what I'll be doing. The distancing thing is the only one I'd have an issue with but extra hand hygiene and possibly facemasks will become more normal. I'd even hazard a guess that track and trace info will be with us this time in a year.

Im sure i read a while back that distancing would end by october this year. Or did i just imagine that?

We were also told in March that we would stay at home for 2 weeks to flatten the curve...😉

What do you want her to say?

Government are guilty of setting overly ambitious timelines and having to then let people down by extending dates. They can't make time guarantees because they just don't know.

I don't know who would be qualified to make such a prediction and what information they would need to be in possession of to do so, unless it was a bit like football pundits saying who they think will win the league.

It won't if cases go through the roof again. As I posted this am Israel has given the first vaccine to nearly all over 60's now. Cases are at a record high, as are admissions. They reckon normality won't come back until 60%+ have had their second dose.
So I see things slowly improving but it will be a gradual slow process with only slow easing of restrictions and opening of bars and restaurants as the year goes on. Can't see masks being got rid of for a year or so.
