It's a personality cult, which isn't supposed to happen in liberal democracies, yet here we are. He can do no wrong for his diehard supporters, who will sacrifice democracy, party and country in order to preserve his power. It's bizarre.

The big problem is that they won't be able to get anyone back in there for days until they do a security sweep and thoroughly ensure that all precautions take place to disinfect anywhere the protestors have been, given there's a global pandemic on the go. You'd have to imagine that they'll ensure that the inauguration of Biden goes ahead as normal but without the senate debates over the objections raised, they won't be able to do that.

If this was happening in Latin America, Africa or the Middle East it would be being desrcibed as an attempted coup, an assault on democracy, the last stand of a tyrant and other hyperbolic rhetoric. With it being the US it's all a bit more measured.

Trump riled up this crowd and knew exactly what the response would be. He is deliberately trying to sabotage a democratic election and cling onto power. A belated request for peace sounds pretty hollow.

This is just the start imho. Trump will do everything in his power to ensure the transition for Biden is disrupted in any way possible!
