Two good friends have been vaccinated last week. One is a social work manager, the other a medical secretary (neither have front line contact with the public). In the meantime people who have to go into Covid environments (like me) still have no idea when they will be vaccinated.

I wonder what the targeting strategy is?
It takes a lot more than doctors and nurses to run a hospital.
    Space to let

Porters probably visit more locations than anybody else in the hospital.

Anyone else hearing the resurfacing of rumours that schools are going to close their doors as of Friday 18th? "Blended Learning" on Monday and Tuesday is what I've heard.... Like they were going to do any work anyway

Could be complete nonsense, but I'm not inclined to disbelieve it given the source.

Of course it does. However, the medical secretary in my view should be working from home anyway and the SW manager isn't even based in a hospital.

Meanwhile people like me haven't been offered the opportunity to book a vaccination at all. I go into care homes fairly regularly as part of my work and feel I should be part of the priority vaccination schedule.

From being so close to moving down a level, Midlothian rate has rocketed. Safe to say we won’t be moving down for Christmas!

A new variant of coronavirus has been identified.

I remember this being a thing a while ago when they first found a new/different/second variant but I hadn't paid much attention to this part of it... Are there quite a lot of variants going around and this is just another one, or is this quite a big deal?

I assume the vaccine will be of limited use against new strains?
    Mon the Hibs.

New variant of Covid-19 found in the UK but it's thought to be highly unlikely that it won't respond to the vaccine.

Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire look sure to be moving up to Level 3. And we are still going to loosen restrictions over Christmas? It's utter madness.

Although I've been critical of the level Edinburgh is at they would be stupid to move anyone's tier down before a 5 day potential free for all

    Yep it really is.

I dread to think what sort of stats I'll be posting in around a month's time.

I fully expect us to be in another full lockdown this time next month.

Further evidence to suggest you DO NOT GO ANYWHERE at Christmas!

This could render Nichola Sturgeons good work over the pandemic void if it turns in to a disaster and a full lock down again.

Well, the good work I think she's done, I think this topic has been done to beyond death so not much point in arguing further. She's made mistakes, but I think she's done a pretty admirable job.

Edinburgh still appear to be rising? So decision last week not to move to level 2 looks to have been the right one?

It's still 50 odd less that it needs to be to be in tier 3, whilst I don't think they should put us into 2 tomorrow when we have the 5 days coming up we could have been in 2 the last 6 weeks or so

By the time Xmas is over and done with and they will no doubt be cautious in January for the fall out it's looking like we will be in 3 at least 3 months

Don't think it has, easy to talk about 14% this and that but with the numbers they are playing with it's just a handful people in reality, Still well short of the 150 people per 100k to be in tier 3

Not heard anything but wouldn’t be surprised, my eldest hasn’t been allowed in school since 4th December, we were told he would be back today but that’s now extended to Wednesday for the whole of S5/6 whether they’ve been identified as a contact or not while my youngest can still go to the same school every day.

The whole thing is a shambles, it’s supposedly blended learning but the work they send home is completely inadequate for a year preparing for prelims. They need to make a decision that’s the same for everyone rather than leaving some kids at a major disadvantage while others are still allowed to be taught by teachers.

Is thought the indicator for going in to tier three was 75 per 100k?

That's tier 2. We were below that for about a week at one point too I believe.

I think we’re saying the same thing but in a different way. Needs to be less than 75 per 100k for tier two. Over 75 per 100k (which we now are) and you’re in tier three. It was the 150 the other poster mentioned that I wasn’t sure about.

I was critical last week but I guess they had an idea of what was coming given the jump.

You could also apply the same thing to Falkirk though. I'm delighted we got moved down but I don't really get it.

    It's 150 and over per 100k for tier 3

    75 to 150 is tier 2
