I don't see any problem making new Bond films with modern plots and why not a female and/or black 007, but there's no reason to pretend it's the original James Bond character.
I can’t think of any examples of adaptations I’ve disagreed with what they did. Maybe the female Ghostbusters, they butchered it and it was god awful. They should have just made a new film in that same universe with their own new unique characters and stood or fell on its own merit. Like they’re doing with the upcoming Ghostbusters. However I can’t say that I’d give it a second thought if Idris Elba, for example, simply took over from Daniel Craig playing the exact same character and same backstory as the Daniel Craig films, even if Idris isn’t close to the character in the book,
